DONT punch my box!

This post is a disaster and a vent all in one!

A family member is getting married right after Christmas and we can not go because it is so far away. I wanted me to make some Monogram, Bride, and Groom oreos for the reception. I did knowing that I would have to mail them to her.

I securely packaged all of the cookies last night and put them in the shipping box. I put so much bubble wrap around the cookie container that there was no way these cookies wouldnt make it intact! I got to the post office this morning and paid for the postage and kindly asked the postal worker to place fragile stickers all over the box. He said that it was not necessary as the priority boxes were VERY sturdy. I asked him again to please put fragile on it or at least let me write it on the box. He then decided to show me how sturdy the boxes were, so he PUNCHED my box. I almost lost it on him when he first punched the box but I kept my cool. Well, I guess he did not think that the first blow to the box was enough so while telling me the box was sturdy and telling me to look (at this point I couldnt, I had worked so long on these cookies to be perfect and couldnt watch what he was doing) he continued punching the box. Well as you probably already guessed, yup, his hand went through the box. So much for sturdy right dude? At this point all of the blood rushed out of my face and I was FUMING. I grabbed the box off of the counter and peered inside of the box to see that he had hit right were my perfect cookies were. Yup, they were destroyed. Thank goodness no one was with me b/c 1. they would have been embarassed and 2. I didnt want any of them to hear all of the BAD words that came out of my mouth at this jerk.

I talked to the supervisor and she refunded me the postage but said that there was nothing she could do about the ruined package. WHAT? your idiot worker just took all of his holiday frustration out on MY package and YOU cant to anything about it?!? She said that it was just cookies and nothing valuable like most people send during the holidays. I dont give a rats butt what you think the value of my cookies are, that is not the point nor is it any of your business that my package didnt contain a PS 3 like the guy in front of me. I stormed out of the Post office carrying the package and crying.

I dont even know what to do about it all now. I wrote down her name and the wanna be UFC fighter but is there anything else that I can do? Off to make more cookies to send through UPS or Fedex now. Needless to say I have lots of oreo topping for icecream now. icon_mad.gif

Below is a picture of my cookies pre fight.

OMG!!!!!!!! I CANNOT believe that idiot, or should I say those idiots! What @#%$ing morons!

I would not let it go. Contact your local TV stations ASAP! I'm sure they would love a story like this, and are much more likely to get results.

I don't see HOW the supervisor could say they don't have to pay you for the contents when their employee WILLFULLY and PURPOSELY, and perhaps maliciously (I'd certainly claim so), bashed your box in. It's not like he accidentally dropped it, or a machine malfunctioned, or something accidental and unforseen. This was no accident, he did it on purpose. That is a totally different situation.

Were there any witnesses? I would write up an invoice for the cookies with a detailed description that these were NOT "just cookies", they were custom ordered, hand-crafted specialty wedding favors, include the picture. Also a copy of what it will cost you to now overnight them by FedEX due to the lost time. I would bet anything your local TV station can get you reimbursed. \\

I cannot tell you how mad I would be if this happened to me! BTW, your cookies look absolutely gorgeous!!

WOW! You have extraordinary restraint. I'd be in jail right now, and unable to post. I'd be taking the names of both of these people and writing letters to the local Postmaster AND the Federal Postmaster! AND calling any local news outlets. That is so insanely stupid it's almost inconceivable!

Immediately go to the USPS stie and the inspector's area and FILE A COMPLAINT! This guy is dangerous...and his supervisor is an idiot. The inspector's office will investigate and call you...we filed a complaint several weeks ago and immediately got satisfaction.

I am so very sorry this happened to you. My dh retired from FEDEX...sometimes it is worth it to use them or UPS in situations like this...everything is automatically insured. I think postal workers see fragile on the box and do stuff on purpose!

Dead serious, that's where the expression, "Going Postal" came from. Not only from the psycho postal worker, but from the way I would've reacted to that idiot banging on my box. Where in the world in his brain did he think that was appropriate.
I'm all for patience and understanding, but I would've gone back to my car and had a little talk with Jesus, "Jesus, please stay in the car right now because I'm about to do something that I don't want you to have to see. Yes, I'll repent later, but right now I gotta do what I gotta do".
I would've gone in there finger waving, neck shaking and eye rolling on everyone in that place AND walked out with some free stamps!

Send an email to the USPS and let them know, people really don't appreciate how much work goes into making cookies like those. I don't even want to think about how my friends cookies showed up to Iraq...

Did you happen to think to take an "after" picture...... it would be good to have them side by side in the LAW SUIT !! tapedshut.gif

I am open-mouthed with shock. Can't believe that someone would do that! icon_eek.gif What an idiot. You should definitely take your complaint further.

BTW My husband is an engineer and has designed control systems for baggage handling systems. After seeing behind the scenes at airports, and some of the people who are employed, he says it's best to pack anything as if you're planning on throwing it down a couple of flights of stairs. Sounds like anything that is packaged for transit should also be able to survive a couple of rounds with Mike Tyson!

To follow up with what rocketmom said -

Most post offices now have cameras in their buildings. File that complaint as soon as possible, and consult with an attorney. There is actual cash value to those cookies, and it should be recouped.

First of all I commend you for your restraint. I would have lunged across the counter at him.
Report this to the higher ups, they need to know even if nothing does come out of it.

Sniff, sniff....I smell a lawsuit! but Serisoulsy, call your local police and file a complaint immediately, then the news, and take pictures of everything, and document EVERYTHING!!!. The supervisor won't save the security camera footage, you need to insist the police do that.
Sheese, I burned a pan of cookies reading your post. You DO NOT let this go!!!
BTW: Your cookies are (were icon_cry.gif ) absolutely beautiful!!!

I didn't read the replies but my first thought is to send a letter to the Postmaster. How the heck does she know that the cookies didn't cost the bride a fortune! What if this was a paying customer that you were sending cookies to? I think they'd have to escort me from the post office if it were me icon_evil.gif

I would call the Postal inspectors and the Post Master at your Main Post Office on this one. This is truly a case of assault if he continued to punch your box.

They probably have video on it to and the supervisor can't erase that.

I work for the post office and I'm truly embarrassed at this.

I'm sorry this happened to you!!!

If you don't get any results from this I'd call the police and news stations ASAP!!!

The Post office is in dire need of customers right now and this is just another black eye for them.

Again I'm truly sorry and I would hope an isolated incident.

I would file a complaint for not only the shipping costs, but what you were selling the cookies for......plus any additional money you have to spend to remake the cookies adn the additional money to have to SEND them with another carrier!

Amazingly shocking, my mouth dropped when I read your story!! What a Tool!!!

I've had a mechanic take a screwdriver and flare sparks off the battery (over & over til I screamed at him!), to show me how it didn't do anything. Can't we group all these numchucks together in a cave somewhere, where they won't hurt other people with their dragging knuckles????

At least file a formal complaint on the worker and his supervisor...who obviously have no clue how to work with the public, and it needs to be brought to the higher-ups' notice(s). To make a point, do propose a value of the item, as if you were sending the package to a paying customer.

I'm really sorry it happened...they are just adorable!!!
