My little sister has her heart set on cupcakes at her wedding, but we are having a hard time coming up with flavors. What are your favorite cupcake combos that would be perfect for a wedding? Thanks in advance for all of your input.

I do cupcakes for weddings all the time. Brides and grooms usually get each of their favorite flavors. I also find that carrot and red velvet; both with cream cheese frosting are very popular. The last wedding I did the bride told me that the chocolate with the coffee buttercream was the most popular that day. I usually do 4-5 flavors per wedding. This way guests can choose the flavor they like most.
Hope that helps.

I agree, red velvet is a really good flavor for weddings. I would find out what their favorite flavors are and if there are certain flavors they don't like and go from there.

Thanks for the advice! We decided, so far, on a chocolate buttermilk with chocolate ganache bc, chocolate w/ fresh strawberry bc, & a white chocolate with white chocolate bc. My sister would like something lemon...any suggestions for recipes?

Also, how many cupcakes should we make? She is planning 120-130. It seems like a silly question, but do you just make one cupcake per guest, or add a dozen extra or what? I've never done this before, so any advice would be greatly appretiated.

One last thing. Her wedding colors are royal purple and silver, which isn't exactly the color of the cupcakes. Does it matter? Or is there a simple way to tie the cupcakes in to her color scheme?

You could do fondant/gumpaste flowers cutouts in a royal purple and add silver dragees (sp?)

You would add lemon rind and lemon juice to replace some of your liquid in your white cake and maybe even some lemon extract instead of/in addition to vanilla.

I would do a dozen extra because I think it would be awful to run out. In catering we always make 10% more so that would be about that.

Good luck!

I did a cupcake wedding this past summer, the B&G were from CA, we chose several different flavors, some I had Fed Ex shipped to sample them. They decided on a Gingerbread cake w/lemon bc & candied lemon peel for garnish, chocolate w/mocha bc & strawberry garnish, and a strawberry cake w/strawberry bc w/strawberry garnish.

I made at least 1 doz extra for them to be sure that they did not run out. Everyone raved, total made was 250. That is when my DH made my 1st Cupcake Tower Stand. icon_biggrin.gif large enough to fit 300.

As for the wedding colors, you could always use ribbon in the same colors to wrap around a crisp/clean white cupcake wrapper w/ a little bow tied to the front.

If you go into the cupcake forum there is a great lemon cupcake and icing! Search for cupcake recipes, sorry I don't have the link.
