I am doing a wedding cake a few days after Christmas and the whold cake is going to be covered in scrollwork.....I found a really cool stencil that I want to use for the scrollwork so that way the cake is the same all over. I have been practicing and I can't get the icing to stop seeping under the stencil and blurring the pattern. Can anyone help???? I have tried bc and royal. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
How about using a scewer stick to line the stencils or edible marker then removing stencils and tracing with the frosting after, hope this helps...
Try using royal of firmish peak consistency, easier to do stencils on a square cake instead of round, and secure stencil firmly to cake sides.
Use a stiffish royal, and don't apply it too thick (I find thats when it doesn't give a sharp edge). I use that white medical tape to tape it onto the cake to avoid movement - keeps it secure, but doesn't mark the icing.
