Ok, first of all I am still new to this so bear with me. I have a garden themed cake coming up and I am wanting to put a tree on the cake. Sure I could draw one, but that's not me. I like to do 3d. I think it makes the cake look so much better. My problem is that I can't figure out how to do it . I have very little experience with fondant...but I am willing to try it with this project. I have prev tried to make the tree trunk out of oreo cookies covered in icing...but it didn't stay on the cake . Please help! If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated!!!
Hi,
If your looking for an every green tree then aine2 has a video on youtube showing you how to do it. It's super easy.
Here's the link:
HTH!
Thanks...but I'm thinking more like an oak tree or something like it. Just a brown tree trunk with green leaves at the top. Any suggestions?
My suggestion is to pipe it on plastic wrap w/royal icing. When it is dry (best if allowed to dry overnight) turn it over and pipe again right over it. You can add toothpicks or kabob stick for support & allow it to be stuck into the cake for support.
Do the trunk & branches. The leaves can be added after it is complete.
Alternate plan: Using snakes of fondant w/GumTex or Tylose added for strength, form into branches & trunk. Kabob stick can also be used here. Again, pipe on leaves after it has dried (overnight or longer). Branches can be attached to trunk w/gum glue (best) or a very light coat of plain water.
