I have an order for 5 cakes, and they have provided fabric ribbon for on the cake.....I am hoping that you all can give me tips and advice. Do I need to do anything to the ribbon before placing on the cake? (grease prevention?)Has anyone ever put the ribbon under the cake? The lady who placed the order suggested this....I am thinking that somehow I can get it to stick to the outside of the cake and not go under, but "look" as though it is going under. They are going for a Christmas present look.

Sorry....this is the biggest order I've had so far! icon_redface.gif There should be a little over 400 women at this gathering....Help!!!

Here's a photo of one I did .... http://forum.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=197713 I took my spatula and gently pushed about 1/8" of the ribbon under the edge of the cake, then "sealed" it with a small border. Even if you're not using a border, when I tucked the ribbon under, it looked fine without the border (I'll have to get a "before" photo on the next one I do!).

I apply my ribbons after the icing has crusted so there are no wet spots to soak into the ribbon. however, you can also rub crisco/oil all over the ribbon in advance so it discolors uniformly. This will slightly darken the color. Be careful.... I had one a couple of weeks ago that had navy ribbon. when I crisco-coated it, it turned black. So I waited until the next day, after the icing crusted, to apply the navy ribbon with no problems.
