And so it sits........

Saturday, when I got home from cake class, DH told me that my friend had called asking if I could do a last minute cake for a little girl who just lost her father, as her mother was, as I'm sure most of us would be, deep in depression. Anyway, I called my friend and left a message on the machine... you know, what does she like, how old, etc.... No return call. At church the next day, I saw my friend, who apologized for not calling back, and she gave me the details. Well, I had a cake in the freezer, so baking wasn't a problem. I had plenty of icing already made up due to my class, so that wouldn't be a problem. I asked her when she wanted it and she said this afternoon, once again, no problem. I tell her okay, I'll do the cake. thumbs_up.gif

This morning, the phone rings and her kids are here for the morning (I watch her kids between the time her babysitter goes to work and my friend gets home from work), I get up and start to work on the cake. Nothing fancy, just pink and purple girly stuff. Anyway, my friend calls to let me know she's home and I tell her that the cake is done but I need to get a cake box because the cake is too tall for my carrier, so she can come and get it this afternoon and she said she'd be here by one. It is now seven p.m. and guess what I still have on my kitchen table? Did you say to yourself a pink and purple cake? Uh huh, that's right! icon_mad.gif

So not only did I waste the time I needed to practice making my roses for class, but my cake for the final class next Saturday is now wasted, and I have a cake that more than likely won't be eaten as we haven't eaten all of the cake from Sataurday.

Here's my lesson learned..... from this particular friend, whom I love dearly, I will no longer be taking orders unless paid for in advance.

I know that you are upset. I would be fuming mad. Especially since it's a friend. Like you said, she will have to pay upfront next time.

Sorry that happened to you.

If it doesn't have any fondant you can box it up and freeze it. That's the best solution I've got.... and next time you see your friend kick her butt! Just kidding, but do let her know how she put you out!

Argh! Sometimes people can be inconsiderate BUT maybe, just maybe, there is a good excuse!

Since you went through all that effort...is there a church, nursing home or day care that you could donate the cake to? Just a thought! icon_smile.gif

Did you call her? If it was for someone in a family that recently lost a loved one, maybe there was too much going on. Could they possible want it a day later?
Just my thoughts Sorry this had to happen.

If you really want to use the cake for class, and you aren't attached to the decorations you did, scrape off the icing, ice it smooth again, and use it for class. I've taken class cakes I didn't like, scraped off the icing, used a different icing and new decorations and served them for dinner parties, so the opposite program should work just as well. At least you won't have to bake again.

I would call your friend and see if the family might still want the cake. Otherwise...use it for class! Sorry this happened to you! icon_smile.gif
