Hello!

Today I want to share with you a tutorial I made for a vintage 3d Wilton pan (Cabbage Patch Doll) I bought on ebay

This is the pan and the cake

Image

I painted the whole cake with jam to glue the MMF to the cake.

Image

I decided to start with the face, so for that I pressed a piece of stirred fondant (MMF) against the pan. This way I made sure I'd have a perfect face that fited correctly on the cake too. icon_smile.gif

Image

Then I trimmed it a little and put it on the cake's face. The same process was done for the hands.

Image

For the dress I stirred a piece of MMF and glued it, molded it and cut it right on the cake.

Image

Then I added some other things

Image

I painted the mouth, the blush, made some mmf eyes and some other little details.

I made the hair using a round tip with crusting buttercream to make sure it gets crusted after it's done (It's 4 times the weight of fat on icing sugar, some cocoa and little milk)

The final picture is also posted on this wonderful website. You may take a look if you like icon_biggrin.gif

Really cute cake. If I come across a pan, maybe I'll try it. But the fondant in pan technique would be useful for other pans too icon_smile.gif Thanks

That is so cool!! Thank you for sharing. Now I have a problem.....my three year old was looking at it and oohing and aahhing. That's how she roped me into making her "telephone cake" which was supposed to be for her third birthday in Sept. but didn't get made/served until yesterday at my in-law's house for Thanksgiving dessert!!

Guess it's a good thing you made a tutorial, huh?! lol I know what she's going to start bugging me for for her fourth birthday.

Awesome idea for the fondant molding! Thank you! Also, your cake looks great. I still have my original cabbage patch kid. Are they really vintage now? Am I that old?

Thanks for that tutorial , I haven't seen cabbage patch stuff since I was a little girl. I guess I should make myself one since I never had a doll.

I am adding in this post another tutorial I made using the same technique. I think I invented it myself (at least I have never seen it anywhere) but quite easy. All you need are 3d or novelty/shaped pans to make it. icon_biggrin.gif
In this case I used a nordicware Santa tin.

Amazing tutorials, thanks so much. I've always shied away from 3d pans as have had no idea how to get the detail into the icing, I love your method and will have to give it a go. Amazing talent and so generous too, thanks icon_smile.gif
