Hi Ladies! Has anyone ever frozen butter and if so, did you find any difference at all in the taste in your cookies? Butter is on sale this week and I was thinking to buy some and freeze it. So... have your seen a difference if you have used pre-frozen butter? Thanks!

I freeze mine all the time and don't notice a difference in frozen vs. non-frozen in taste or baking. We've been freezing butter since I was a kid. Saves money to buy on sale and freeze it!

All the time! Usually I just put it in zip lock bags and freeze. I've never noticed any difference.
Before the Holidays begin, I usually make butter molds and leave them in the freezer until Christmas dinner or whenever I need them. I use the chocolate candy molds, squish in the butter, tap it to make sure there's no air bubbles and set it in the freezer until hard - take them out of the molds and put in zip lock bags until I need them.
Just adds that little bit of "fancy".

Always. I buy in bulk at BJ's, freeze what I don't need at the time. and take it out when I do.

Sure, go ahead and freeze.

The only difference I notice is that I'm paying $2 a pound for butter instead of $4.69!

Stock up now!

I always freeze, and notice no problems with it for cookies or icings. I like to buy my butter in bigger packages cuz it's cheaper!!

Thanks for the thumbs up! This just wasn't something I wanted to take a chance with.

Next question, how long will it keep in the freezer?

I freeze my butter all the time. Not only is it cheaper, but it is exactly the same as fresh. Look for the sales at the supermarkets or wholesale clubs. Trust me you will be happy icon_biggrin.gif

Tracy, I would say up to 6 months but you may want to check online to see what the experts say. I usually use mine by then (probably after just a couple of month) but I am sure I could keep it longer. Anyone else?

I freeze butter all the time! Heck, I have 20 lbs in the freezer right now as my wholesaler had unsalted butter on sale last week. Bought 20 lbs for the fridge and an additional 20 for the freezer.

Been doing it forever! No difference.

I buy it well before the holidays and even during.

When it's on sale I buy alot it! I just know ones of those times I'm going to run into one of my Drs and have some explaining to do icon_redface.gif

You all are just fantastic! It is a limit of 3 at a time, so I will be in and out a lot this week! So very much appreciated!!!

Oh, do you just put it in the freezer or put it in a freezer ziploc as well? Or is there another way to freeze it?

I freeze it right in the wrapper. My freezer is work only so I don't have meat or onions or anything else in there. I would think that freezing in a ziplock is not only environtmentally unfriendly, but also adds a couple of extra steps and extra cost to the process.

I ALWAYS have butter in the freezer, almost. I freeze it right in what it came in. My husband is so used to buying butter that when I asked him to pick up some for me, he always buys extra for the freezer. I've never noticed any small or odd taste.

I freeze it as well. I have a "cookie-designated" freezer for this.

Thanks! Good point about watching what else is in the freezer so it doesn't pick up any odd flavors. Thanks ladies!
