What happened!

Last weekend I mde a wedding cake and I used Pillsbury white cake mix and used buttermilk instead of water. The layers baked perfect. The cake was 4 tier stacked. Everything looked fine until Saturday morning. Around the bottom of each tier, it had a "tea stain" look. I don't know what happen. I've used pillsbury before but not with buttermilk, the BC was the same I've used for years. I notice something new on the cake box - "1 cup pudding added to mix for extra moist cake". Maybe the cake was to moist - but "tea stain" color?!??!?! I took pictures but did not show up. I was embarrassed but at that point I could not do much with it. I tried to cover up as much as I could with fresh flowers cassading down from top. There was no filling - just BC. Any thoughts?

No idea what could have caused it welder ... I use Pillsbury all the time and I've never had that happen .. it may have been the buttermilk.. maybe bake one with and without buttermilk for your family and see if it happens again and then you'll know for sure.

I think it may have been the buttermilk, too. or it even could have been too much grease from the pan remained on/in your cake and stained your board? ARGH! WHERE IS SQUIRRELY CAKES!!! I am officially dubbing her Super Squirrel! After all, who's to say she's not a flying squirrel? She could come to the rescue on this one.
