Cherry blossoms

Can anyone please give me some tips on how to make them? Which cutters to use, and that sort of thing. I need enough for a 4 tier cake. so about how many??? like 500 or 200??? I would hate to run out and have to make more. And what about the middle? should I be putting stamens in them? or just a bit of yellow color, and then people can actually eat them if they want to? And she wants burgundy, so instead of the flowers being solid, should I dust from the inside out so that there is shade of color in the flowers???

PLEASE help!!!!

This will give you some pix of the flower.
Any small 5 petal cutter will work. The center is usually 5 pull-up 'spikes' or strings.
I would dust the back of the flower - it will show thru just enough as it builds up slightly at the edges.
As for how many - are you completely covering the cake w/them? How will they be used? No way to tell you how many at this point.

Thanks so much! That is a good start!
It's a four-tier cake, with a black-brown tree trunk and branches. I would equate it to about 1/2 the cake being covered in flowers.

well, I made a cherry blossom cake and it is in my photos. it was only 3 tiers but I did not need 200 cherry blossoms. icon_lol.gif

i think i maybe made 50 and didn't even use them all.(this also depends on the size you want them small, med, lrg)

I used the 5 petal cutter that comes in the wilton kit to make the roses....then after cutting out very thin fondant I put them into egg cartons to shape them some. after they dried i just used petal and luster dusts for the color. and yes!! i did have to dust the backside of the petals that were showing because you may just see them from all sides. and I dusted from the outside in...I think cherry blossoms have more color on the outside. so you would want to do it that way.

these are VERY easy...you will get addicted to making them! icon_lol.gif

Everything You've said is great, however a real cherry blossom has a darker color toward the center of the flower rather than toward the outer edge of the petal. So you may want to adjust you brush technique. cherryblossom.jpgHere is a really awesome close up that i use to make them realistic. :-)
