just curious. i just bought a bunch of jet puffed marshmellows. i didnt know you shouldnt use them. (i read it somewhere on a post).
and if not jet puffed then what do you use?
and what will happen if you use them?

Never heard that... they are all I use. I never use store brand which would be one of the other choices. Maybe someone is referring to the marshmallow cream?

do mean the the brand name or the big marshmallows? I pretty much only use the kraft jet puffed mini marshmallows, but i have used store brand with good results. i have used the large marshmallows (because hubby bought the wrong ones) and the fondant came out the exact same as with the mini's. HTH

That is what I use too. I use mini's, but I don't think that matters much. I use them b/c I think they melt faster being smaller.

someone was talking about mmf, and it was posted not to use jet puffed.
so i was curious. ive used jet puffed before with never a problem.
i didnt know if using another kind would get a better result.

I have used the big and the small....store brands, national brands, etc....I always get the same mmf. I would just guess that the minis might melt more evenly?

I also use whatever I have on hand and have never had a problem!

I found the jet puffed actually do better than the generic marshmallows. If there is a "preferred" brand I'd like to know.

The only thing i have noticed with the Kraft Jet Puffed is they tend to be more rubbery. Some people like that better others dont. I dont like it soo elasticy. I prefery store brands like Safeway brand. That's just me.

so far i've only used kraft jet puffed (the big ones) because oddly enough those happen to be the only thing on the shelf when i've needed them. my mmf has come out beautifully with those, although i do plan to try other brands/sizes just to see what the diff is. has anyone used the strawberry kind? it's got pink and white marshmallows, does it hold it's strawberry flavor on the cake?

I use whatever I can get cheaper and haven't had a problem. I had used the Aldi's brand before and really liked them. I think in the end they are all pretty much the same.

I prefer the walmart brand, they are whiter and not as elastic as the jet-puffed. The times I've made mmf w/ jet-puffed it turned out stretchy,chewy and rubbery , but to each their own.

I've used all different brands and never had a problem. Just don't use marshmallows that have started to harden. I've also used the chocolate and strawberry flavors of the Jet Puffed brand for MMF. The MMF came out great. And yes, the strawberry still had a strawberry taste. It was a little too strong for me so I kneaded in some plain white MMF b/c I wanted a lighter pink anyway.

i have notice however, that my mmf sometimes comes out rubbery and was thinking it could be that they are jet puffed mms.

You may have heard that from me.

Jet-Puffed makes my MMF rubbery, too. When you start to stir in the PS it becomes this glob that is harder to mix than generic marshmallows. I've tried various brands and found that WalMarts marshmallows work best for me. MMF is all I use

i will try walmarts brand. for regular mmf. i just bought some strawberry mm's but they are jet puffed. im glad to hear ppl had a good experience with them.
i figured it would be easier than coloring all that mmf pink!

The same should work with chocolate MMs - I just bought some at the $.99 Store to try.

I've used all kinds of marshmallows for fondant with good results. Maybe the person who said not to use Jet Puff meant the cream in a jar.

Ive used all brands of mm's havent noticed a differecnce. Ill have to try Walmart's mm's I like white!! and strawberry mm's ?? havent seen them yet.. Ill be watching... great info.. thanks..

When I started making MMF I used the walmart brand...one day I used jet puffed and my MMF crumbled like crazy...so I only use the walmart brand now..lol

But I guess it's diff for everyone
