Hi fellow South Carolinian
I made some of these using standard cupcakes and cakes in the mini-ball pan (not sure of the name but it is shaped like half of a ball).

I covered the half-ball in buttercream and then covered with fondant. I then stuck it on top of the cupcake using buttercream. They are not hard to do but are very time consuming. You can decorate them any way you choose. Hope this helps.

I actually went a different route with mine. The ornaments were made of chocolate. I bought plastic two piece (halves) ornaments in Michael's to use as molds and made candy melt balls. I made each color a different flavor by adding in Lorianne oils. I decorated them with RI.

The plastic 'balls' I bought are made to hold something inside of them (I think). They snap together, so they can be a little tricky. I coated each side with the candy melts and before joining the two sides, I added a bit extra around the edges, then I clicked the sides together, put clean rubber bands around them and popped them into the freezer for about five to eight minutes. Most of them came out fine, though a few gave me fits (had to redo some of them two or three times if they didn't blend into one piece or if they broke).

I made mine a little different too. I made a half sphere using Merken's chocolate, decorated it with royal icing, dusted the whole thing with luster dust, then painted the gold or silver royal designs with luster dust mixed with lemon extract.

These are beautiful! May I ask what the top is made of? (The part that the hook/hanger goes into)

Luvbakin, did you use the plastic snap together ball to mold yours as well? ( I realized it would only be half of it) It fits perfectly!

So...does the cupcake completely fill up the inside or do you pur frosting or what? I was also wondering what you did at the bottom of the ball to fill in....or does it just naturally fit that well? Any help appreciated. Id love to wow my friends with these!

Thanks Sugar_plum_fairy icon_smile.gif

jjandhope, I tried the plastic mold from Michael's, but didn't get consistant results, so I used a fexible sphere mold I found on www.instawares.com. I left the inside of the chocolate empty, and then put a tall spiral of frosting on the cupcake to help hold the chocolate dome in place. On the inside of the chocolate dome is a small lip which will set right on your cupcake and hold it up.

thanks, luvbakin! I hate to bother you further, but I went to that website and went to kitchen and then to candy molds and it said nothing matched that, so I was wondering if you knew the name of the product or where it can be found on the site. A search for molds reulted in too many matches to look through! Thanks so much....if you dont know, I will look through all the results...thanks
