Not sure if you can place a gumpaste decoration in the fridge???

If you can what type of covering if any should be in place (aluminum foil, saran, wax paper, cake box?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Also...I was planning on seperately the gumpaste decoration from the frosting by applying royal icing to the underside of the decoation to keep it from softerning...does that sound ok??

Thanks
Mary Jane

Hello Mary Jane ~ I do not know about putting gumpaste in the frig. (Good question!)

I keep all of my gumpaste pieces in plastic containers. I put that "egg crate" foam stuff on the bottom so they don't wiggle into each other and break. icon_wink.gif

I have used royal icing on gumpaste. It was the "glue" in my current avatar (baby bassinet). And, just fyi, I have laid my gumpaste flower arrangements right on top of a good crusting buttercream. As long as it's crusted well, the gumpaste items should be fine. But maybe that's just me.

Let's see what others have to say! icon_smile.gif

There is no need to refrigerate gumpaste. You want to keep them in a cool dry place like in a pastic container or something like that. Refrigeration might add moisture and not allow them to dry properly or even might make them wet and gummy!

do you mean once you finish decorating your cake or just for storage? If just for storage, there's no need to refrigerate. All my cakes get refrigerated after they are done being decorated including any gumpaste or fondant decorations on them. The pink and brown cake with the orchids and butterflies in my photos was in the fridge for 12+ hours before I delivered it. The decorations were also sitting right on top of IMBC for that long and had no issue collecting moisture... that being said, all my pieces were 100% dried and hard before I placed them on the cake. You might have a different outcome if your pieces aren't completely dry when you put them on your cake or in the fridge.

I also place my dry gumpaste decos directly on the cake and never had any issues. And have put them in the fridge with no issues! (except the painted flowers cake I was afraid the paint would run if they got condensation on them)

If you are talking about home made gum paste, like Nick Lodges recipe, then that IS stored in the fridge between use.
