Hi Holly. I look forward to meeting you at the cake club. This will be the first one I've attended. Are you teaching the hands on portion? Just curious about the getting ready for it comment.???

I have never attended a Cake Club. I think that it would be a lot of fun to get together with other cake ladies. What kind of things do you do?

I live in East Texas, so I wouldn't be able to attend y'alls, but I was curious about needing to be prepared. Do you get assigned things to do, or is it just a relaxed time to be with friends?

Deb, as this is the first cake club I will attend, I am unsure of everything that happens. I know that at this one I am going to Sunday, we are going to be learning to make fondant animals and we are also doing a cookie exchange. As for preparing, I'm not sure what tichay meant by getting ready....unless she is the one teaching how to do the fondant animals. Maybe she will tell us if she checks back in on this thread.

Ive enjoyed this thread and look forward to catching up on everyone but for some reason I stopped receiving the alerts that there were new posts, so I need to check that out.

Angela, my mom went to college and became a nurse after I was was out of school and married. Im guessing she was about 41 or so. She is still doing it. How old are you if you dont mind?

I would be interested in getting together. I cant do it on Sundays or on Wednesday nights (church) but there is a good chance I could at some other time. Just let us know. Im not sure what you do at cake club meetings, but Id love to try it.

Today I am making cupcakes with cake ball turkeys on top to send with the kids to school. Tomorrow I am making a simple target and arrow cake for my 8 yr old sons bday.

hi jj! yeah i know i only just received my first two alerts in days. i think its cuz of the maintenance. i am 41 and have four kiddos at home. my dh works an awful lot and right now he is in school in the evenings til dec. so i stay pretty busy. i am going out of town this weekend to visit my best friend and this will be the first i have seen her since i had gone back to get our stuff out of storage, so its been like four years and can't wait, well that was long, what i wanting to say is that i never get a break, no joke. no family helps me out or babysits unless it is an emergency. luckily we haven't had too many of those this year. thank you so much for the info on your mother and her age jj, i can be very hard on myself and thinking of my age, well... it has been a bit discouraging.
yeah i can't for diamond to get our first meeting together. icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

AngelaTX,

Is the nursing program you want to get into a 2 yr or 4 yr program? I did a 2 yr. ADN (RN)program and then after working a couple of years I entered a program at UT Medical Branch in Galveston that was geared to RN's working toward a BSN. That way you don't have to do all the clinicals because you are already a licensed, working nurse. I did all this while working full-time small child at home and pregnant w/my second. At the time you feel like you can't breathe you are so busy but before you know it you are finished! In 4 yrs you will still be 45 - whether you are a nurse or not. We need more good nurses to join our ranks! Hang in there.

so you are a nurse bonnell?? gee wish i could just sit with you and talk about it in person. i am going for the adn and the cont. on. i also thought of going for my lvn and then cont. with rn and so worth. so that way i could at least be working sooner than later. have to go for the kiddos, be back!

Hey y'all. I got my stuff done and delivered!

To be honest, I have no idea where to begin other then just set up a time and place to meet with the only objective being getting to know one another. Perhaps we could do a simple basic BC demo. To see what each of us does, doesn't do, and to get ideas from one another. I think that once we are together things will go smoother.

Items to discuss and resolve:

1) Location of first meeting?

2) Date and time of first meeting?

3) Individual host or rent a location, ie a community center etc? (If we rent, then we all would need to pitch in $$ to cover the cost)

4) Is car pooling an option?

PLEASE pitch in ideas!

hi diana! well maybe we can take turns meeting in our towns, so that way not everyone has to drive all the way all the time and leave it up to that person to find a location. unless thats not feasible for some. car pooling would be great and we could pitch in for gas if we had to travel. will we go to elpaso if we do the "taking turns" option?? sounds like so much fun! icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

I like the go to each others towns option...it would be nice to get away! I dont know if I could go as far as El Paso, but you never know! I think a weeknight would be best for me (other than Wed). I pretty much keep weekends for family. Unless my DH has something going on, her would be glad to keep the kids one night in a while to give me some freedom. How long would the meeting last?

I aslo meant to say...
how many of us are there now? Does anyone know how many from each town and where the center of our group would be? Maybe we could meet at the center point first time and not even do cakes....just bring pics, talk or whatever. I dont know....

oh and of course eat cake!

I think over time y'all will have a large group. I have read CC posts from 1, maybe 2 cake decorators from Monahans. Eventually people will hear about this and not want to miss the fun.
Midland and Odessa are large population areas that should have all kinds of sweet treats and cake ladies. I wonder if Pecos has a CC member.

Midland:

Odessa:

Andrews:

Monahans:
dedra_w_1980
ali79756

El Paso:
lanibird
SweetPea0613
mashmellow

Lubbock:
agarcia2222
tichay

And of course me from Fort Stockton. I know of one other lady here in town in who is interested and I feel would be a good addition. There are a few other cake ladies in town but based on the conversations I've had with them...I don't think we'd get along. I know it sounds snooty but their personalities just rub me the wrong way. Sheesh, that still came out wrong. Lemme try again. When I was talking with them, they were in it for the $$ NOT the love of it. Does that make better sense? I do this because I am addicted and I love the whole thing. It is awesome!

OH! There is also a lady from Alpine. She speaks spanish but I think we could all communicate well enough. I've seen her fondant work, she's good! I think once we decide when and where I'll call her and invite her.

I bet y'all speak it better than I do. I can do a conversation using the 1/2 n 1/2 method. lol I understand it no problem but it's hard to get my point accross. So, considering that the holidays are coming up when would it be a good time for everyone?

Hi all. Just checkin in too. I had to take my computer to the shop, so I am have to go to my sister's to use the internet icon_cry.gif No spanish here. As for people for the cake club, my sister also does cakes and would probably be interested in attending. I also know several other ladies in Midland that I meet through classes that might be interested.

Well, I gotta run so I can finish my candies that I am taking to the Lubbock cake club tomorrow. I can't wait to see what happens there.

Have a great weekend all.

YEEEAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!! It's back on finally....I'm doing good hows everyone else doing? If anyone is interested we have a convention center here in Monahans that we can rent to get together since it seems to kinda be a center point for everyone. Or would yall rather meet in Odessa at a restaurant just to get together and get to know everyone first? Let me know, I'm down for anything supper and drinks in Odessa is sounding pretty good right now though....lol....Have a Great Thanskgiving and don't forget to give thanks for all the things we are grateful for and the little things we take for granted. I made a whole flock of the turkey cookies for the mtg and family, etc .. you can see a picture in my photos.

I've upgraded the directions, so i'll do my best to upgrade the website here as soon as I can icon_smile.gif

Our mtg was great - we learned how to make a small teddy bear out of fondant/gumpaste icon_biggrin.gif
