As for the bettercreme, a while back I had read a thread on here about it, so when I was in the Midland Sam's I asked about it, and they kept it back in the walk in fridge (it has to be refrigerated). It was in a large bucket, and I don't have the space in an extra fridge for it, so I had to pass on it at that time.

JJ, I recently finished taking all 4 of the Wilton classes at Hobby Lobby in Midland.

And about me, I am a SAHM too (even though I only have one and he's already 14 ..they grow up sooo quickly). I am trying to find a job right now to make up some extra money for the holidays, but there aren't many decent jobs here as it is a small town. I wish I could sell my cakes, even though I'm not the best, I have people willing to buy already. I'm just nervous about the whole "being legal" thing. There is a new gal in town that opened a cake shop. I'm thinking about going in and seeing if she could use an extra pair of hands with the busy holiday season coming.

Diana, it must be nice having that "friends" connection. And I hope all goes well with your daughter this spring. Oh, and how much has gas dropped to there in F.S. ? I just filled up for $1.92 a gallon here yesterday.

Angela, I was thinking about going to DJ's cakes for a job too. I had looked at their website and I like what they do. Since I want to start a shop of my own here someday, I dont want to go to work in Midland and then be competition with my employer. SO I thought I would go to Odessa to DJ's and ask, but now maybe I wont. Oh, well, for now I'm busy with my own holidays!

well maybe she was just having a bad day tho. I don't know, she just made me feel pretty low. I had asked if she was hiring and then wasn't friendly at all and basicially just went on to ignore. We all have bad days tho. Maybe that one was hers. So you still might try. Wouldn't hurt. can you post the link to her website, please? i have yet to see it. TIA.

You said "she" when you talked about her...is it just HER? Does she have any employees? Maybe she doesn't want any....hmmmm. I read a review on some other site....the only review for DJ's and the customer was unhappy.

hi jjandhope, no their were others in the back that i could see. i didn't see how many or anything, but a few. i looked at her cakes and they aren't that impressive. they aren't ugly by any means, but i hadn't seen her work and just thought they would much more impressive. thats pretty sad if that unhappy comment is out there. luckily tho i don't too many people on here go to online stuff here. my thing is not criticize or anything, i am not trying to be mean, but i would think for someone who has her own business she would take more professional photos especially considering she is advertising in brides and on the internet where everyone can see her work. just my personal opinion. i made some oreo cookie molds last nite. you can go to my photos and sheck them out, hehe. they are the turkeys. my dh did some wonderful puter magic to. hope you are having a great weekend!!!

Hey all. Just wanted to stop in and see how its going. I see we have quit a bit of new ones on here. So what do all of you do besides cake decorating? Im a nurse here at our local doctors office. As well as a full time very busy single mommy to 3 kiddos my 2 oldest are in school, my youngest is 2. I love decorating and wish I could find more time to do it. Are any of you having trouble uploading pics? I try to and it says I dont have permission to do it. So I dont know what to do. And I agree on Dj's cakes she need to make her pics more professional if shes going to put them in a magazine. Well I guess I'll hollar at ya'll later on. TTYL~Dedra~

yeah pics is behaving funny. i think just cuz of the maintenance going on tho. i stay home with my kiddos for now. i was going to OC, but had to withdraw. when i went to school in dallas i was majoring in nursing, but now i think i am too old to be a nurse. kudos to you dedra on being a single mom. i can imagine its super tough with three kiddos. i have four and married and its tough that way. so dble kudos to you! hehe. hey someone was talking about the correct grammar and how writing "ya'll" is incorrect and several people from texas responded including myself saying that, thats how we have always spelled, correct or not, hehehe. it was funny. i still spell it like that, hehe. just like i am "fixing" to eat, lolol!!! and mind you, i am hispanic, but not accent whatsoever and my dh laughs at how i talk, cuz of how i say iron or oil. hehe hope your weekend is going well!!!

yup it had everything. and the rent was cheap. however she was selling a lot of things that i didnt need. might give her a call i think shes still in the phone book

yeah, crazy cakes is out of business. I peered in the windows and the store looked empty, but there may have been stuff in the back that I couldn't see.

Since someone brought it ups....here's my take: I think we spell ya'll like we do instead of y'all (like yankees think we should) is because we are not contracting the words 'you' and 'all'. We are contracting 'ya' and 'all'. It makes a difference in where the apostrophe goes. We say 'ya' instead of 'you'. Anyway....good to see we all say it on this thread, no matter how its spelled.

So what do I do besides bake? Well, I have mostly been a teacher, but I have also been a decorator for Miss Cayce's Christmas Store, a missionary to Mexico and I am a pastor's wife. Right now I am staying home and just working on the house and organizing years of stuff that didnt get done while my kids were too young for school or while I was working. I wish I had my own shop...but thats not happening right now.

hi everyone, yay! cc is back up. i have never been to miss cayce's before. a pastors wife, i bet you stay super busy! in time jj you might could have your own shop. that would be so cool. i need to get better myself. practice on smoothing my icing. i don't really use fondant except to do some decorating and thats it. people don't really care for it. do you all find the same thing?? so i wonder when diamond is going to try and get us together? are you all game for that??? we could meet at a restaurant on a sat. and just chat. i would love that. i don't really have friends, my only best friend is in dallas and of course i live here. i am going this weekend tho to visit her!!! can't wait *(dancing around)*

I would so love for all of us local gals to get together and visit. It would be great to put faces with the names. I talked to diamond regarding getting together a local cake club, which would allow us all to meet once a month or so.

Speaking of cake club, is anyone else going up to the cake club up in Lubbock this Sunday??? I have decided to go to see what it is all about. I'm excited and can't wait to learn, so that maybe we can get a club started locally.

Angela..I'm with ya on not really having friends. I moved here from Alaska 4 years ago and still haven't really made any friends. Guess ya need to get out for that and I am pretty much a home body...lol.

wow alaska, are you from there originally? i am a super homebody as well. i just stay home and take of my kiddos. i wanted to start a walking club, but everyone i tried to get in on it didn't have the time cuz of their jobs. sometimes i feel like i am the only sah mommie. even tho i know i am not. everyone i know works tho. i want to work. *sighs*

Angela...Glad to know there are more like me! As for Alaska, I had moved there when I was younger (2 times actually) and lived there for 16 years before moving back here to Texas 4 years ago. I had lived here back when I was in school, but moved away before I graduated. I know how you feel about going to work... I am trying to find a job, but there isn't much available here in town, and I'm not sure I want to drive to Odessa to work. I hope you enjoy your visit with your friend this weekend.

thnx kim for the well wish for my weekend. she is the only one who has been my friend the longest, i have known her now 16 years and i love her to pieces. how many children do you have? i have four, my oldest girl is 13, then a girl 10, another girl 5 and my baby is 18mths. i love being a stay at home mommie, but i miss the interaction with women my age. as you can tell, i went crazy trying to talk to you all on here, hehehe. just gets lonely is all. i might be starting school again this spring. i tried this fall, but it just didn't end up working out for me. had to drop out. i have an older sis, but she is into her own life and doesn't really have time for me, then a younger brother, and he just doesn't like to be bothered at all, hehe is always on the computer, he is a puter genius. see how i talk so much... sorry

Angela, I know the feeling about not having adult conversation. I get that way sometimes too. I have my MIL, DS and BFF to keep my company...when they have time to visit the SAHM. Plus right now I have my 4 yr old niece. I am hoping I get to keep her. She needs SO much that she is not getting.

OHOHOH! I gots some good orders! I have two for tomorrow! A red velvet with cream cheese and a birthday cake for a little boy with the decorating instructions, "just whatever little boys like" WHAT does that MEAN??? lol

PLUS!!!! I have THREE orders for the second week of December! YAY!

Angela, wow you are a busy mom with 4 little ones. I only have one, he's 14 (will be 15 in January). This is his first year in high school and let me tell you...the drama has begun. It use to be all about the video games and now...it's about the girls....lol. I really enjoy staying at home, although I do miss the adult conversations too. I too have an older sister, she lives her now (moved from alaska a year ago) but she recently got a full-time job, so I don't see much of her anymore, plus she recently got engaged and they are planning their wedding for this spring..... MY FIRST WEDDING CAKE!!!!!!!

So what are you going back to school for? I have been thinking of doing the same, but not sure if I'd rather accounting/business or nursing... I know...two totally opposite fields..lol.

i am going back to school for nursing. have been trying to go back to school to finish for so long, but either i was preggo or we just didn't have the money. i almost wasn't going to major in nursing anymore cuz i am 41 and think i am too old for it, but i said oh well, i can teach if i have to. hehe.

Oh I do hope you go back to school! I take classes during the long semesters. I am majoring in business admin. I figure it will come in handy once I get a shop right??!!

Good morning Angela and Diana. Diamond..what school are you taking your classes at? I had considered going for something to do with business or accouting...(I love working with numbers).

As for me... I'm 37 and my son is 14. I know..a little late to be starting back to school, but I already have over 100 credits that I need to put to use and finish a degree with.

Ladies...I just had to mention that gas here in town went down to $1.72 yesterday. I think we might be the lowest in the permian basin.

Goodmorning! colabear. yeah you should for sure go back and finish up with some degree. thats awesome that you have so many hours. so what are you ladies working on right on, as in cakes and cookies. me nothing right now, just going to do some cleaning later and other things so that when i am gone this weekend, it won't be so difficult for my dh. when i get back and probably after thanksgiving i am going to work on some cookies, just for practice. my cookies are awfu. i can't keep my line on the end of the cookies straight. so i need to practice. do you all know what places sell decorated cookies and have you all tried any of them??? i had heard that dj's started and also cindys cakes. might not ck in til later ladies. have a great morning!!!

I'm not from west Texas but I'm from Southeast TX and I'm a nurse. Please don't let your age stop you from becoming a nurse, it's never too late to pursue nursing. When I went to school back in the 70's we had ladies in our classes from 18 to 73! Seriously! Also, the median age of nurses today is somewhere in the 40's. We are an aging profession.

Right now I am working on....hmmm... the usual...housework..lol. I have been designing a cake for early december for a birthday. I am making a thank you cake for a local office next week and I have to make some goodies tomorrow for the cookie swap at the cake club this weekend.

As for cookies, I haven't tried any decorated ones yet. I keep seeing such beautiful ones on cc and want to give it a try. I don't know of any places selling cookies locally either.

Guess I should go get busy and get off the puter
