i know huh? everyone is always from somewhere else and they have access to all kinds of places that sell stuff right near them that they need. when i lived in dallas i use to go to cake carousel all the time. thats where i took my classes at years back. didn't put what i learned to much use, hehehe. until recently anyways. icon_smile.gificon_biggrin.gif

Angela, at least you have Michaels and Hobby Lobby. I just have Wal-Mart and the Family Dollar! Lemme tell you- I have had to get VERY VERY creative at times!

thats very true, but i want to be able to get flavorings in a bigger batch, instead of the lil bottles. in dallas i could, but here their really isn't a place. that i have seen anyways. or how about not being able to get bettercreme??? that bites big time. would love to be able to have that stuff for my kids cupcakes and my family likes that whip topping kinda icing. where you at?? fort stockon??? have to run to get the kiddos, but will be back. icon_biggrin.gif oh and i have been having problems with getting to cc today. have you?

angelatx, I believe the Sam's club bakery sells the bettercreme. You have to ask them, as they keep in in the back. Or at the least the one in Midland does.

diamondsonblackvelvet, I have to drive 30 miles just to get to a walmart. That really sucks. I wish so badly that we had one here in Andrews. There just isn't much here other than a couple dollar stores and a local grocery store that marks their prices sky high.

agarcia2222, I am going to attend the one in Lubbock next weekend. If you'd like information, just pm me and I'll let you know what I know.

Knowing that there are several of us, and hopefully more that we don't know of yet, maybe we'll be able to get a local cake club started up in Odessa or Midland for all of us P. Basiners..

you know i had called sam's and asked if they had it in the bakery to sell to customers and they said no icon_confused.gif . which sams do you get it from??? i sure would love to get my hands on some, hehe icon_biggrin.gif well i am so excited to see others from this area. icon_razz.gif wait did i say that already?? icon_lol.gif hehe

Hey...is that bettercream icing kinda like the coolwhip/ buttercream step child? Where it's not really either but has properties of both? Does it behave more like buttercream or coolwhip? Reason I am asking is that I tried the first recipe posted in this thread: http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopic-609094-0.html I have to say- It is very yummy. It was a really neat surprise. Try that and see if it is something you can use. It was creamy and had the texture of coolwhip but not the dairy flavor going on. Reminded me of the twinkie filling. I am going to try some of the others as well. My DH says my BC is too sweet- I'm like Yea...it's 4 lbs of PS- what do you expect??!!?? icon_confused.gif

I have seen the huge buckets o frosting at Sam's in Odessa. They were out in the bakery stuff: try there.

i will try it this weekend, thnx diana. i know what you mean about the "sweet" thing, cuz yeah its made from sugah! hehe. really?? huge buckets of icing? have you tried it? so do you sell your stuff diana? i don't. wish i was good enough to tho, cuz that extra money sure would help with xmas coming around. so do you stay at home or work outside the home?? the question goes out to all the other women who responded to when you all make it on here again. i stay at home with my kiddos. wish i could work, but i can't. i have a tiny one that had surgery last year ouch.gificon_sad.gif and i just don't trust anyone yet to care for him yet cuz of how the kids can be so rough in the childcare icon_confused.gif . we go back nov 25th tho and see how his kidney is doing. maybe i will put a prayer request for him on here that its gotten better. if its not then they may have to remove it. icon_cry.gif *sniff* ok so anyways.... icon_confused.gif that stuff beat me to death last year and i am being positive about it now thumbs_up.gif . so are you in fort stockon diana? do you ever come to odessa?? icon_biggrin.gif i talk alot icon_lol.gif or better yet type alot, hehehe.... icon_biggrin.gif

being new to the whole cake decorating scene, I have just taken WIlton 1 and 2. Well, my teacher bought her icing at Sam's in Midland in a 5 gallon bucket. I dont know if it was called bettercreme or not. I also know that they have the cool whip variety but it is not set out in front. I havent seen all this myslef but she told us about it. She works at Michaels in Midland and her name is Connie, if you wanted to call and ask her about where she got it.

Yea...It was the 5 gallon bucket. I was gonna buy it and give it a whirl but I coudn't justify spending that much on frosting when I could make my own. I love the way mine works. HEY! Speaking of frosting- if you make the shortening or shortening/ butter based BC, the Wal-Mart brand Great Value STILL has transfat in it. It makes a humongous difference!

I do sell my cakes under the radar. The local health inspectors wife is a friend of mine and he said that as along as I don't get any complaints or advertise, he doesn't care what I do. Cakeing is my "job." I love it because it allows me to be able to schedule around my life. If I need to go to one of the kids schools for whatever reason, then I can justget up and go.

I was in Odessa Wednesday as a matter of fact. We had to see the ENT specialist. My DD is going to need her tonsils out during spring break. We don't go very often as we drive an SUV and even with the falling gas prices it is still $100 to fill up.

Do you make cuppies etc for the kiddos school? I'll keep your little one in my prayers. I can't imagine having one that sick. Scary! ouch.gif

well you know i tried calling the health dept. and left a message cuz noone answered and noone ever called me back. what are cuppies? cupcakes?? thnx for keeping my son in your prayers. i feel for daughter and you when she has surgery to remove her tonsils. any surgery is painful and risky. where did all the other ladies go?? i seen they are going to be working on maintenance, so we might not get to post if at all. icon_smile.gificon_biggrin.gif
