Just wondering where the (work from home) bakers get thier product. I assume those with their own bakeries use a commercial supplier. What do the rest of you do? I know I can cut my food costs by buying in bulk but there are many things I do not know where I can get in bulk. Any advice will help. Also I'm writing from Canada so if there are any Canadians who know of where I should go I'd love to hear from you. I live in a small town so even online ordering would be of great conveinience to me.

Thanks,

If you have a Bulk Barn near you, they sell cake boxes and that's where I usually buy from. They're a little cheaper than a cake bakery. Also Michael's will carry some sizes, but they will cost you.

Unfortunately, there aren't too many options for ordering online.
There's McCalls and Golda's Kitchen. Golda's has more.

If you have a vendor's permit, you may be able to shop at the warehouses like McCall's has for permit holders.

The American websites have HUGE shipping fees and then sometimes slap you with additional customs/ duties charges. So then you end up paying double or even triple for what you are ordering.

Example, I ordered a $4.50 cookie cutter from an American website. Had to pay $7 for U.S. currency, $6 for a money order and $2.50 for shipping.
So for a $4.50 cookie cutter, I ended up paying $15.00!!!

Hope that helps. I'm sure some of the other Canadians on this site can give you more info.

I'm from Barrie Nermal03 and I am wondering the same thing! I usually go to the bulk barn for boards and boxes...I can't wait until Sept b/c my boyfriend is going to California to play hockey and I'm going to go MAJOR cake decorating shopping down there!

I would love some ideas of other places to order from as well. The closest cake supply store to me is 45 minutes away. I go to Michaels when I have to, but I have been ordering online for some boxes and fillings, I just hate paying the shipping cost.

Hello Everyone
I'm from Toronto. I like to shop around for my supplies but I get most of mine from Bulk Barn. Their prices are pretty reasonable too. Some people on this site have spoken about Michael's also but I haven't gone there yet!! I'll let you know if I come across any other stores where we can find our supplies!!

I just recently found Country Kitchens. Their website is www.countrykitchensa.com They have almost everything you can want and the prices are very good (atleast compared to where I have been shopping). Even with shipping I saved a good amount of money on my order. You can request a catalog or shop on line. Hope this helps! icon_smile.gif
