Has anyone used tequila instead of vodka or extracts to mix in with colors for painting? i looked it up and they have pretty much the same alcohol content. i need to make a thimble and a pair of scissors so i'll need to paint them silver, but i don't want to go out and buy a bottle of vodka or lemon extract if i don't have to. Or is there a way to just use the nusilver luster dust on its own?

I don't see why tequila wouldn't work. You just use the alcohol/extracts because they dry faster than water. Yes, you can use the nusilver by itself, just dry dust it on there, but it might take a few coats to get the look you want. icon_smile.gif

I think people use vodka most often because it has no flavor, no color and evaporates quickly. Extracts are used because they also evaporate quickly - and the flavors are fine if anyone eats it - say sticking fondant cutouts on fondant covered cake. Any other clear extracts will work too - almond, clear vanilla extracts. Same with any of the alcohols - anything other than clear will affect the color of the dusts.

You can use luster dust without liquid - it just depends on the final effect you are going for. With liquids will give you stronger more definite colors, while the dusts are a bit more muted....think liquid eyeliner versus powdered eye shadow.

Guessing I'm not not much help about your tequila question - I keep it in the house for consumption purpose only. Do you have anything else?

Tequilla might leave a smell unlike Vodka with has almost no smell. You could just use clear vanilla if you have some of that

In a pinch and when I was out of Vodka I used Gin. I got the same effect but there was definitely a smell of liquor. It went away thank goodness! I would think that you would have to use a clear Tequila and not a gold.

I would probably use it if you don't have any extracts that will work. Maybe you could water it down a little.

I was out of cheap vodka for my last cake too...I ended up using Grey Goose that I watered down a little. I hated to do it but there was no way I was going out to the store!
