well, trying to convince people that a child's level decorating job is worth $500 kinda turns me off.

That's a start as to why she's annoying.

What I want to ask is why so many people feel that the info she's been trained as a chef is supposed to impress us? I think it's pretty clear that she doesn't use the training she's had in her show.

I suspect that the reason she always makes a drink is so she can manage to eat her food.

Her recipes save me lots of time and her tablescapes give me lots of ideas for parties.

Although I'm not a fan of the cake in this video, I still don't loathe her the way so many other people do. I just don't get. What am I missing?

the beauty of the good ole USA!!!!!!!! usaribbon.gif ...you can love who ya want for whatever reason you want. rock on!!!!!

as much as i love this site, sometimes there can be a mob mentality, cause we all want so badly to support the original poster...alot of times, though, the "opposer" gets bashed in the process. this isn't really leveled at any particular person in this thread, mind you, but just a feeling i get from the overall site. thumbs_up.gif

I'm not really a Sandra Lee fan, but just because she's known for semi-homemade does not mean she doesn't know her sh!t. She's a trained chef and developed the semi-homemade concept for the average person who doesn't like or feels they can't or doesn't have time to cook from scratch. And before we cast stones at the semi-homemade concept, lest we forget that the majority of folks on here are "semi-homemade" bakers themselves (doctored cake mix, anyone?).

Now, that said, that cake looks like a three year old decorated it! lol OY... but for someone with no decorating skills, on a budget, the idea isn't bad... but the execution could be better.

$20 says that if a photo of that cake had been posted by a member here, there would be 20 comments saying "great job!" Lol!

I don't particularly like Sandra, and the two of her recipes that I tried were horrible (country gravy and candy cane cookies) - however, this reminds me of how my ex used to hate Jeff Gordon. He would call him names and proclaim that he was a lousy driver (and it was his team or car that made winning at all possible for him). Jealous much? I may not care for Sandra's style or recipes, but I sure as heck wouldn't mind trading places with her!

Yah.....mmmmm.......okay........I'm not sure what to say about that except that looks like something onf of my kids would do. It's cute if a kid made it, but she went over board with $500 cake.....Yah.......

Ha! That was hilarious! Can you imagine selling that thing for $500? Not one of the cakes I have made have reached that amount yet, and they are a heck of a lot better than those two cake stacked up with tacky cookies.

I don't like her either, but one time I saw her do something similar with whipped frosting and sea horse shaped cookies that actually looked pretty. But that cake was just craptacular.

I'd buy it for $500.00 as long as Mario was serving it....

I totally agree with PinkZiab. That being said, her cake is craptastic!

And yeah ... if that's a $500 cake, then my prices are going up!

Okay, debi! Don't knock MY family's Easter Tradition! LOL Really, my cousin makes the 2 circle bunny cake. Actually, I MAKE her make it because it's been a tradition with my family for years!

OF COURSE this cake is worth $500 in Sandra is NUTZ land! LOL

Now don't hurt me..I'm only voicing my opinion.
I think the cake was fun and something the average mom could accomplish with 2 five year olds hanging off the table wanting to help.
A lot of people were raised on box cake and Walmart frosting, and think that's how it's supposed to taste (chemically). Try passing off a scratch cake that's got a heavier texture, and a lot of people will just say it's dry..
And yes everyone thinks cake decorating is just soo easy--until they try it and nothing looks as planned.
I like Sandra Lee and I'm proud to say it. Her ideas are at least a lot more realistic than Martha's--and some of the cakes that Martha has made don't look that much better than SL's

I'm sorry, but that does not look, as she said, "Fantastic." Holy cow...

Lol..funniest thread I have read in a long time. I love Sandra lee.. but uhm...that one....NOT!!!!! I wouldnt pay $500 for it, not even a $100.. I can make that cake look like $500 but not using that! Now, i would pay the $500 if Mario brings it to me and shakes his assets just like in dancing with the stars, I'll take that for a spin!

I have to agree with this statement!

I am a grocery store decorator right now, and also have a position in a real cakery.

My grocery store clients like the frozen cakes. ( mine are not 6 months frozen I watch the dates on the box they come in, and only put them in the case for 30 days)
Are they better than the cakes at my other job? nooo way!!!

fresh is always better, but some people never have had the opertunity (sp) to taste good food.

I had a brides mother come in on the day of the wedding and want a cake ! ( at he grocery store) She wanted a 1/4 sheet with an 1/8 sheet on top. Just base iced and she would put fall leaves on it. Sure I did it. and it was beautiful. Very semi homeade.

Just nor done by an over active former teen idol. made He has held up!

I agree to this, but I can't say it looks like a $500 dollar cake..that's a little bit too much.. But definitvely I think for those who cant afford custom made cakes is an option, or for those who want the semi homemade look.
