I'd baked 2 6-inch cakes for my niece's and nephew's birthday. I made a Jack Skellington (?) for my teenage nephew and a Jack-o-lantern for my little niece. She wanted to take it to her preschool the next day. Her little brother decided to take a"scoop" from each cake using his Nana's ice cream scoop. I was baking the other day so I made her a spider cake, and she took it to her preschool. I had a talk with her brother about not touching the cake right before the incident. I told him NOT to touch the cake. I guess using a ice cream scooper isn't technically "touching" the cake. LOL!!!!

My goal was bake this morning, then we have an awards ceremony for my 5 year old at 1:30, I work at 2:30, home by 6pm, eat, ice cakes. Tomorrow morning decorate then work... Halloween... leave for party at 10:15am Saturday morning.

Now I'm stressed! I could strangle the little booger! Here's the culprit of this mini disaster!

Hahaha! I have a 3 year old as well, and she did the same exact thing to me this week. I was having a super tough day, everything going wrong. I was in the other room for a minute, came back, and she was standing over my cakes, and had dug finger holes into my 6, 9 and 12 inch rounds. Grrr! I was so mad, I had my DH watch them while I went for a walk to cool off! icon_lol.gif

If it makes you feel any better, the cake I submitted for the halloween contest took the spirit of halloween a little too far. It died before it even had a chance to live. I brought it to school today for our school's halloween celebration and when I was leaving my driveway, the entire 2nd and 3rd tier slid off the cream cheese covered 1st tier. I pulled over and cried. haha I'm over it now but all that hard work went down the drain. icon_sad.gif or at least to the bottom of the box it was in. icon_sad.gif

That's horrible! I'm so sorry to hear the cake fell apart on you. I've found that if I want to stack a cake with cream cheese icing I have to use 2-3x's the amount of powdered sugar the recipe calls for in order to get it to hold up and crust and give me the stability that buttercream provides. It's not the same light creamy texture but it still tastes like cream cheese icing.

You're cake is just as precious as your little cake thief. He obviously likes your baking, and for that I'll take a slightly damaged cake any day of the week.

Have fun, he'll be grown and gone before you can turn around. Our boys are 20 and 16.

Shill,
Thank you for the advice! I will try it next time. Also, I love your figure in your picture! What did you use to make it? Any tips on making figures? I'm going to try my first figurine next week when I make a baby shower cake.

I have a three year old who likes to do that too, but only if I accidentally forget to close the swinging gate to my kitchen! That gate is invaluable...

Go to youtube and find any video's you can by aine2. Also check this website for any tutorials.

She has a website www.extraicingonthecake.com (I think that's it) and she has links there too.

Lorraine's tutorials on figures are AWESOME! I've only watched her free ones but they were enough to get me from "I can't do this". to "WOW!!! Look what I did".

This post made me laugh - my 3.5 year old got into a cake one morning a few weeks ago while I was in the shower. She nibbled all the way around the cake (which was chilling in the fridge) just along the top outer edge. I tried to put her in time-out, but it was too funny and I was laughing pretty hard -- the cake was so perfectly nibbled. Now she is the one to tell me that she won't touch the cakes for other people....and our new plan of attack is that she gets to decorate and eat the leveled-off cake tops now (or the cupcake or two from some extra batter!)

You all have to understand that it is an organzied union. My two year old son (local #314) has ruined plenty of cakes with finger holes and huge bites taken out of my cakes. I just want to scream and cry because he always waits until I'm almost out of time to come up and grab a chunk and run. My husband said they must pay their dues in cupcakes and a representative usually stops by at 18 months. Good luck icon_lol.gif

My son is 21 months (I think, I can't count) and EVERY cake that is on the counter is his. At least, the way he sees it. I cries and screams until I give in, so I've learned to take out the scraps from the freezer, and leave a few chunks out to give him. he's still gullable. My 36 yr old DH is another story. I have yelled at him a few times, and he thinks that I'm being Witchy with a capital B!!! He doesn't get it. And THEN I had a girlfriend over and SHE had her fingers in the white chocolate BC. I just about killed her!!!!

BTW, your son is adorable!!! he looks exactly like a little guy that I used to teach. he was one of my faves in that class.

Thank goodness the stove was off and he was not injured climbing up there to reach the cake.

WOW.....Ain't that the truth icon_lol.gif I've had quite a few incidents like this icon_cry.gif My favorite one was when my DS decided to get his pencil and "draw" on a cake that was already at my friends house. I couldn't fix it, because I didn't have anything with me icon_cry.gif We drove from San Diego to LA (2 hours) and I was a stress case, worried it was going to get messed up. Go figure

Here's the happy little Birthday Boy with his pumpkin smash cake. We just took one of the pumpkins off the top of the cake for him.

I thought I was the only one with cake hungry toddlers! I was cooling a carrot cake for my cousin's 25th wedding anniversary, after spending hours in the kitchen doing three different cakes. I just went to use the bathroom when my older son yelled, "Mom you have to see this" I came running and my three year old took a wooden spoon and decided to stir my cake into a pile of crumbs. I told him to just run!! My DH came in scooped him up and the two ran. Later, after I had a chance to breathe again he looked at me with his big ole eyes and said,"Mom I just wanted cake! I gave him a big hug and was able to just smile icon_biggrin.gif
