My kids are having a magic party. DS was thinking that he might like his cake to have a magic theme (DD wants a High School Musical theme). Any ideas? It has to be easy! Also, I would like to stick to bc frosting...not ready for fondant (although I can imagine a beautiful cake with fondant with this theme).

well sounds like you have quite a project in your hands. I think it would be hard to combine both high school musical and magic theme together in one cake. I'd probably make 2 cakes 9x3 Magic theme: maybe a hat with colorful stars flowing out of it and HSM Theme: The school colors and logo.

Oh, yeah, I was thinking two cakes!

Originally it was going to be one HSM cake, but I thought that they might want separate cakes and DS mentioned a magic theme to go with the magic show that we will have at the party.

So for the magic you think maybe draw a hat and have colorful stars coming out? I could probably do that.

Other thoughts, ideas?

You could do a 3-d hat.......bake cakes 6, 8, 10 OR if you don't have access to those sizes use 3 layers of the same size; stack; then cut 2 at a slight angle so the whole thing tapers some. (Need/want more info on that pm me) Make a brim out of cardboard covered in icing. Now your stars can be cookies OR fondant cut w/cookie cutters
