See I would think that a person who inquires about the price is likely somebody who is not used to buying cakes and is interested in exploring the idea of having a professional cake made for them - thus a potential customer who if impressed could become a repeat customer. I would also think that if I disregarded them based on the fact that they were on a budget, then they would definatly not become a customer.
Y'know hopefully that would be the case and that they are going to order. But you get a feel for these certain kinds of calls that lead with the 'how much is it' question.
It's not that I would disregard them at all. It's that there's a flag on the play, a light comes on, or goes out. It's generally but not always a signal that this person is like me economically and can't afford my services.
I had a lady call who's decorater moved away. She wanted a half sheet cake with special decor for $20. Agh, no.
I had a bride request pricing on a cake for 100 people. I gave her my price she said her budget was less than that could I work with her. I said yes I can make a cake for 75 people for that amount of money.
So yah gotta take it with a crystal of sugar.
