i use the 1234 Yellow Cake Recipe found here on CC. However, instead of 1 cup of milk, I use 1 1/2 cups of buttermilk.

I searched "Vanilla Cake" on this site because Im in the mood to bake, which means I get to test recipes! I actually have a vanilla cake recipe that I like, but its texture is inconsistant. I'm running to the kitchen right now and trying Serious_Cake's recipe. The video was hilarious! (oh yeah, and that, uhh, cake thing, looked really yummy)

I really like it! I made a nice little 6'' and a bunch of cupcakes. It has a MUCH better texture than the recipe I've been using.
Also, I love your videos! I was watching them while I did dishes icon_smile.gif (hurray for laptops) Serious_Cakes, your awesome! thanks for the videos. I'm going to try the drop strings later. I love the way it looks.

I think the drop strings turned out pretty well for my first time. I tried a few with the garland maker, a few marking with a tooth pick. I ended up doing the rest with the toothpick, I liked it better.

I make the WASC (White Almond Sour Cream) cake but omit the almond flavoring and use more vanilla. Everyone who has tried it has loved it! You can also change the cake mix flavors and flavorings.

SeriousCakes, does any shortening work in your recipe? Even transfat free?
sayhellojana-those strings turned out great! I also like the toothpick over the garland, I think I used the garland marker ONCE icon_lol.gif

Edit-I haven't tried hi-ratio shortening with this recipe but Crisco works great. I've been using this recipe long enough that the trans-fat switch happened and I didn't even know it, the recipe is just as good as it always was thumbs_up.gif

I used plain ol Crisco and it turned out really nice. Serious_Cake's recipe has the crust of a yellow cake, but its a nice white color of a white cake, so it's a good inbetween.

I really, really hate WASC. the flavor is good, but I just hate that it is made with a boxed mix. All those chemicals and preservatives, it just defeats the purpose of baking from home for me. However, I know box mixes make baking easier for busy decoraters, so they have a plus side. I figured out a scratch version of WASC a while ago and have used it a few times.

Serious_Cakes - I need to boost your ego real quick. One, I made the flowers shown on the drop string video, they were like hibiscus, and they turned out really cute and kind of cartoonish - very fun. Two, I made the vanilla cake recipe and added 3T orange zest and 1T pumpkin pie spice. OH gosh, yummy yummy. I put them in loafs and mailed them to family and friends I won't be with this holiday. Orange spice cake, but easier! AND, three, I just got two orders, wich will be my first time selling a cake. Both are for vanilla cake. I think its so funny that I found this recipe and then it's the one I need most. So, thanks thanks thanks icon_smile.gificon_smile.gificon_smile.gif

(I've had a wonderful day, I'm quite giddy, sorry)
