I'm making a mini tiered (2", 4", 6") cake for a lady at work who's having a baby. It's her second child so I wanted to put a 2 on the top of the cake. I was going to do color flow, but I don't want to make a whole batch of color flow for a one mini cake. I was wondering if I could do it using fondant. Would it be too flimsy or too heavy to stand up from the top layer (2 inch top layer)?

TIA!

You could use white or colored chocolate, or even a cookie. I did a smaller version of the birthday cake on the front of the 2004 Wilton yearbook. It has cookies at a topper and around the sides, spelling happy birthday.

Since your cake is small, if you mount the cookie on a lollipop stick, you could run it down through the middle of the cake and it could be additional support.

Ah, chocolate! Great idea!!! Thanks! A cookie might also be a good idea if the chocolate doesn't work out. I'm afraid that it might be a bit too heavy though.

Thanks Brandi! I just started cake decorating. Started my first class in May. People at work are loving me! I'm really liking cake central. It's giving me lots of ideas!

What part of KCMO do you live in? I'm on the KS side, in western Shawnee.

I live in South KC, near the Grandview Triangle. I took classes at the end of last year, so I am still new at this too. I LOVE it!!! I bet the people at work love you!

It was nice to meet you!

Just wanted to let you see what the finished cake looks like. The picture quality isn't all that great, but you can see the better photo in the galleries.

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement.

It wasn't supposed to be topsy-turvy but it ended up that way. That's my next cake to try. Oh, and I think FBCT may be another technique to try. So much to do, not enough people to pawn cake off on! LOL
