What is the best way to ice a cake to look like a piece of candy corn standing up? I've got the shape but am having troucl when it come to keeping the colors even when going from yellow to orange to white. I've tried once and it was okay but I'm doing a cake for my daughters bday and want it to be great not juct okay. TIA!
I'm not sure if I'm on to your question completely, but here's my idea:
If you're concerned about keeping the colors even spacially, I suggest measuring the height of your cake and then dividing/marking off the sections evenly in thirds so that the areas are proportionate.
Hope this helps,
Mari
could you cover the whole thing in white buttercream... smooth it out. then either paint on the colors or use the spray colors with a guide to keep from overspraying into the next color? Like hold a piece of paper over the parts that are to be orange and spray the yellow?
Why not wrap a piece of white fondant around the top, then do a yellow band, the the bottom w/ a piece of orange?
Just did this exact cake yesterday!! Look at a real piece of candy corn. The lines are NOT even and the spacing is not even. The orange center piece is larger than the others.
If you are determined to keep them close to straight lines, why not use piping gel or a straight line border in the orange to delineate the areas?
Good luck! It is a fun one to do!!
God bless and take care.
