Here are the snowflake cookies that I did for Christmas. It was my first time baking cookies from scratch, first time decorating anything. It was so much fun! I'm already thinking about Valentine cookies. I'm sure my family is going to get sick of cookies for every occasion but I loved doing them and want to continue! Maybe someday I'll get brave and venture into the cake world, but for now that is too overhwelming so I will stick to the cookies! icon_smile.gif
Thanks for all of the great posts on here..I never would've been able to do it without reading and seeing everyone's examples first!

I would love feedback on them...be brutal, I can take it! icon_smile.gif I have a couple of questions that came up while I was making them:
My main question is about the detailing. I read on the tutorial that a #2 tip is good to use for the detailing. When I tried that everything was just running togheter. these were done with a #1, but as you can see it's not that fine of detailing even then. Is my icing too thin? I was a little unsure as to whether I was supposed to use the thick or thin royal icing (I was using antonia icing from the article) to do the details. I just don't see how I could do anything really detailed if this was as fine as I could get even with a #1.

My other question..the first few that I flooded just to try it out looked perfectly smooth but then when they dried were completely bumpy and the outside was higher than the inside. Did I jsut not put enough icing on them? (I wish I had a picture..thought I took one but I guess not) On the ones in the picture that I did second, I felt like I was putting a ton of icing but they turned out much smoother. does this look like the appropriate amount of icing or did I go overboard?

Last question...now my sister wants me to make cookies for her wedding favors...I am sooo scared since I've only made cookies one time. I will practice like crazy until then but don't know if there is even enough time to get them "professional" enough. this is a trial that I did just for fun while I was doing the snowflakes..what do you think? do you think it would work if I smoothed out the monogram by getting better at the writing? I would put the monogram on a wedding cake cookie or something since it is a summer wedding I don't think the snowflake would go over too well. icon_smile.gif

I think you did a great job and you have nothing to worry about when it comes to making favors for the wedding!! Your cookies are awesome.

I am not much help with your question about using royal icing to flood the cookie. I pretty much just use rolled buttercream and use royal icing to pipe details.
