For me -
I miss my grandma's oatmeal cookies (they were thin and flakey - evidently my great aunt Martha's reciepe that no one has). And her sugar cookies - we have the reciepe for those but it's just not the same - oh and her homemade donuts that were never any good.
I now live in cali so it's foods from home:
Italian Beef sandwiches and either Geno's Pizza or Lou Malnati's! Chicago style. I know you can have both of these shipped for big $$$ but it's not the same in any way!

Oooh i forgot to say....here in Miami there is a place called the Ale House and they have the best Shrimp & Crab Quesadilla's...oh and on South Beach there is this place that makes the best Sweet Potato French Fries...oooh and The Cheesecake Factory Fried Mac & Cheese....looks like i'm going to have to make a few trips next weekend.

I wish I lived in your neighborhood . . . sounds delish . . . although I've never heard of Fried Mac & Cheese (what's that all about ) . . . I bet you need the doctor to check your cholestorol after a meal like that . . .
Dragonlady.. Paula Deen even made some on one of her shows ! Deep fried mac n cheese ! Delicious!
. . . do you make it Fiddle . . . is there a "recipe" . . . is it coated in something or just fry it???
I have not made it only ate it lOL!!! But she made it with some baked mac n cheese, and I believe it was cold??? She cut it in a chunk and just dropped it in the hot grease, I cant remember if it had a scatterd breading on top like you would add to a baked mac anyway or not !
Its probably on line, on food network ?
But it is good !
Then from school there were octopus curls. It was really just a hot dog cut halfway down into strips, with the other end whole. When they fried it the strips would curl up and it looked like an octopus. LOL
. . . after reading this . . . I found this on line . . . http://www.baronbob.com/octodog.htm
