Hi everyone,
I have a very special reason to be "Thankful this Thanksgiving"
after finding my long lost sister (21yrs later).
Please help, I would love to make her a special cake this weekend when we first meet again...any ideas?

I found this quote about sisters (I collect quotes): In the cookies of life, sisters are the chocolate chips. ~Author Unknown

You could do a cake with choc chip cookie decor with this written on it somewhere.

Here's one where you could do a tree-cake with little nuts and acorns on the ground: Sister to sister we will always be, A couple of nuts off the family tree...... ~Author Unknown

A flower garden cake: Sisters are blossoms in the garden of life. ~Author Unknown

Here are others:
A sister is a forever friend. ~Author Unknown

A sister is a gift to the heart, a friend to the spirit, a golden thread to the meaning of life. ~Isadora James

indydebi, I love the Isadora James quote. I have a twin sister and the quote made me realize that I don't appreciate her enough. I love my Sissy!

How about 2 flowers where the flower pots are far apart and the flowers are growing towards each other and finally touch pointing towards the sun.

Is that to abstract. icon_confused.gif

A sisters love is always there know matter how far we apart are.

How about a cake with a tree on top with the two of you (out of fondant or something) peeking around the sides of the tree like you were playing hide and seek? You could put the names of your family in the tree. ust a thought

Momvarden - LOVE your idea. To add to that, in the pot part of the flower, could you add a picture of when you were children and in the flowers part that are touching, put pictures of what you look like today.

I'm so happy for you!

. . . for me under the circumstances, this quote speaks volumes to me . . . it really ties the "Thanksgiving" piece of it together . . .

My sister is my 2nd best friend (after my daughter). I cross-stitched this saying for her one year and it's been hanging in her kitchen for years:

We've shared many secrets, the same mom and dad,
We've shared lots of good times (don't think of the bad).
Our memories we'll cherish, with love without end,
I'm glad you're my sister, I'm glad you're my friend.

I love this quote (and indydebi's idea for a cake to go with the saying)! icon_biggrin.gif

I also really like momvarden's idea. Can't wait to see what you decide to make. Congratulations, by the way. What an exciting time for you!

I think this will be a truly wonderful Thanksgiving for you.
Here's a thought: A flower garden cake: Sisters are blossoms in the garden of life. - I am not as creative as the other ideas but maybe you could make a cupcake bouquet in a pot.

Can I ask how you found her?

ok so being we dont know what the surounding things dealing with this are- maybe the family tree might be a lil touchy but what about lil markers of things youve missed out on in life together like mile stones from school items to birthdays and christmas all on one cake to show what youve missed and whats to come
i hope its everything you dreamed of having a sister!!!

Maybe (depending on what kind of cakes you like to do) you could make a cake shaped like a locket. With some of the chain showing and put sisters on the front. If you do a locket that is open.....you could put sisters on the one and how many years it took you to find each other on the other or your names or her birthday date......something like that. I couldn't find a picture of a "cake"example but I attached an actual locket picture. Just an idea!!!

Wow, what nice ideas. Thanks everyone!
Well, it's a long story, so I'll give you the short of it.
This was my fathers second marriage and it didn't work out so his wife took off with my 2 half sisters and went into hiding for the past 21 yrs.
Over the past 21 yrs I had searched phone books, called telephone directories, extended family, libaray/city directories, wrote letters and then copy & pasted the same letter to dozens of people on Face Book.....Nothing ever came up so on Thank Giving Day (Canadian) I again tried FB and my older of the two sisters replied. She had just joined.
We are truely enjoying our time on the phone catching up and this Sat we are planning to get together with our children (same ages).
Feeling VERY nervous, not so sure now if I'll be up to making a cake.....
Also, our Father is now speaking with her and catching up for lost time and we are planning a long drive together to take her to meet him in the next couple of weeks.
It's all so very exciting and I feel like the missing piece's to the puzzle are now found!
Thanks again for your great ideas and well wishes.....

Big sister, Carolyn

PS: I like this one......

thank you for posting that story. You will be just fine, when you meet your sister, she already loves you. Other wise she would not have agreed to meet you. Have fun and enjoy the time together....it will be amazing.
