I just got an email from a girl who needs me to make her a 4 tiered wedding cake. What I didn't realize is that the cake will be picked up by a shipping company to deliver the cake the next day. How do I box a wedding cake for such a ride? Just a heavy duty corrugated box? I don't want to say no becasue it would be a substantial order and with Christmas coming...Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure it's not a scam? It really sounds like the emails that many of the people here on CC have gotten - check out the many threads on here about them. Be very wary about this one - it screams scam to me!! Good luck!

Why would any stranger have to have a wedding cake shipped?
Are they wanting "Happy Married Life" written on the cake?
Are there numerous spelling, grammatical and other errors in the e-mail?
Did you actually speak to the "person" ordering the cake? I would make sure its not a scam. Tell them to contact you by phone to confirm and get payment before you start doing anything. I would hate to see you or anybody lose money because of something like this.
I would definitely not do it. What if something happens to it during shipping, who would stack it once it arrives, etc etc. I could think of a million different reasons aside from the fact that it could be a scam.
be careful, it sounds like a nigerian scam....the "shipping company" is the tip off...
The very idea of shipping a wedding cake makes me laugh. Just getting a decorated cake to a reception site is a tickly situation. The idea of sticking one in a Fed Ex box .... oh come on... you'd end up with a box full of cake crumbs - good for cake balls but not much else.
As many has mentioned, there's a well-known scam going around. Please be careful!
A super-high-end designer acquaintance of mine ships his cakes ... but the couple must also fly him out to set-up and do any touch ups and decoration on site in the venue's kitchen.
My advice is to never, ever, ever, ever, ever ship a wedding cake. In the past I've shipped a few birthday/special event cakes to beloved clients but they were the exception and not every cake made it through the journey. I no longer do that.
