One of my good friends is a single mom of 5 her son is having a birthday, they have been through a lot the past few years and I volunteered to make him a cake. I have no ideas though...he will be 12 what do kids that age like? He likes to ride bikes, play computer games, and toss around a football. He is so amazing to help take care of his sibs, and I think he deserves an awesome cake. But what?? Ideas Welcome

What I would do is do a search in the galleries and see what type of cakes you can find for the things he likes to do and see if there is anything on there that you would like to try also. I'm sure he will appreciate anything you do though!

OMG!!! What boy doesn't love video games!!?!! It's a sure thing!! Maybe an X-Box console? I would say a Wii but that would be tough to stand a cake up, unless the cake is the foundation and you shaped one out of fondant or gum paste??? Sounds like this kids deserves a great cake. Good luck and it is really nice of you!

So how about a skateboard cake? I tried to put the pix right here so you wouldn't have to click on it. This is one big-a** cake! icon_eek.gif With him being 12, all his buddies, sibs, the neighbor kids, parents, grownups, etc., this is one big impressive cake for any boy!

His friends will be talking about it 4-ever! And its not too difficult to put together! (If I could do it, so can you! icon_biggrin.gif )

You might try asking his mom for something more specific like fav football team or call and talk to him. That's what I try to do. Kids always have cool ideas that the parents wouldn't even think of! icon_biggrin.gif

That one was like that on the page, but you could just do a screen capture, and create one with a Paint program.

Very cool. I've used Paint program at work. (not on cakes, tho!)

Wow thanks so much to all for your ideas !!!! Especially 7yyrt your awesome to send that paint pic. I felt like I was looking for a needle in a haystack doing search after search. Great suggestion though I will talk to him more and his mom to get more direction.

The final cake was a flop I put it off and put it off and ran out of time in the end, Using 8 inch instead of 6 inch pans was a huge mistake, although I didn't like it, the kids loved it and were so excited!! His reaction and joy made all worth it for sure. I can't figure out how to post it on here but its in with my pics.
THANKS to all for helping me brainstorm when I was at a loss.
