A coworker has asked that I make cupcakes for her wedding. So I am looking around and everything that I have read says that all you do is fill regular ice cream cones about half way with batter and bake according to the cake recipe. I was just wondering if any of you have done this before and if so do you have any tips or tricks. Will they be ok if made the night before? How well do they hold up? Do they taste good? Any ideas would be great. Thanks!

You have the right idea! They turn out pretty good but the cones tend to get stale tasing if you do them too much ahead of time. One day should be fine though. I made them for my daughter's birthday and just did white buttercream icing with sprinkles and sour cherry balls on top. They are super easy to frost and make look like lil yummy icecream cones! Have fun!

When I made mine I filled them up 3/4 of the way full. That way they rise up a little past the top of the cone. (They are in my pictures) Be sure to make them no more than 1 day before you want to serve them. They will get mushy and start to collapse depending on what type of cake you use. Especially if it's a moist cake. I will say that they were really fun to make and the kids loved them. Definatley more fun than just plain old cake. thumbs_up.gif

I've made these. They turned out so cute. I frosted the with Chocolate icing, then dipped them in chocolate sprinkles, then took candy corn candies and pushed them in the frosting pointed end out all the way around, it looks like a sunflower!

I had trouble getting the cake to rise above the cone. The end result was an ice cream cone that looks like it had been mostly eaten!

To get a cupcake that looks like an ice cream cone, and that doesn't fall over easily, I've had the best luck baking cupcakes in a muffin tin, as you normally would. Then, put some candy in the ice cream cone. Put some icing around the edge of the cone and stick the cupcake on top, upside down. Then, frost the cupcake to look like ice cream by using sprinkles, etc.

The last time I made these, we used the colored cones, then frosted the cupcakes black so they looked like microphones. Perfect for High School Musical party we hosted!

Thanks so much you all. I feel much better about these now. Any ideas on what to charge for 25-30 cones?

Look at my picture in my photos. I used a mailing box and cut x's out on the top. That way they wouldn't move.
