So, I have a cake order for Mario Galaxy theme. The mother is supposed to send me pictures of what she wants on the cake from the game. After a week I find this attached picture and ask if she wants me to base te cake from what I found. She says yes. I just delivred the cake and the boy says Bt I thought it would have the differnt levels of the game. I dont like it. And she didnt ask me to put his name on the cake either. ( I should have asked but I didnt) And now she needs a box. ( I dont deliver cakes in a box to help reduce the cost but it is in a cake carrier in my car)
So now I have to go buy a box and she askes me to get soething I can write is name on the cake with. So I go get box some icing and go to write on the cake and thier little girl pushes me and I damage the cake a little. I wrote the best I could and then she asked me to put 7's on the cake so I did that. After everything she wasnt happy do I give a refund of any sort?
I can't see the second pic, but why-o-why did you let her dictate your time like that?
Your cake looks great. If he wanted different levels of the game on hte cake, the mother should have told you that and sent you the additional pics. It's not your fault the boy was disappointed because his mother didn't tell you what he wanted. No refund at all!
Heck, no, you don't give a refund. If she didn't give you any guidance and let you figure it out, then she gets what you came up with. If she wanted something specific on the cake she should have given you pictures.
Young children are very literal. I did a bug cake once from a magazine picture a mom gave me. When they picked it up, her son didn't like it because the mouth wasn't EXACTLY the same as the picture. His mom told him "Too bad sweets, we can't always make things exactly like a picture. It's a very cool cake and WE love it." Too bad the mom didn't have the sense to do that with this kid.
Too bad that happened to you, but I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
I would not refund her anything. I took a look at your pix in your gallery. WOW!
The lady is teaching her boy the "Wal-Mart Trick" --- "Go buy food from Wal-Mart, eat most of it, take the rest back, get a full refund."
Not to mention that this mom should teach this kid some manners. When I was a child, if someone had brought me a cake for my birthday and I'd said, "I don't like it." to them, my mom would have scolded me right then and there for being rude, and asked me to apologize for being ungrateful.
Spoiled child...and very rude mother....NO REFUND!!
And I can't see your cake either!!
WOW! Your pix of your cake just came up! That is a FABULOUS cake and you matched the picture perfect!!!
MAN...I wish I had just a pinky-sized finger of your talent!
That's an awesome cake! Any kid SHOULD be thrilled to have it. My son would go nuts for it.
I'm with everyone else...if it's not exactly what he wanted, that's Mom's fault for not ordering it that way. You went way above and beyond for them, don't give a dime back!
Paula,
The cake is terrific! YOU fulfilled your contract...and even made the effort to please a customer that wasn't entirely happy. No refund!
BTW, if you don't already do it, perhaps you should state in writing that you do not provide a box...perhaps giving the customer the option of ordering one from you at an additional cost.
No, you really shouldn't.
That mom is raising some bratty kids-the boy gripes about the cake AND their daughter pushes the cake lady? Time to call Super Nanny!
I really liked your cake. It also sounds like you didn't have much direction, either, so you made a beautiful cake with the info that you were given.
Also, may I add, RUN from this client in the future.

No refund is needed.
I agree, no refund. I let my 12 y/o son look at it and he liked it!!! So that kid is just spoiled and he mom is nuts!!! Just know that it is really a great looking cake!
This cake looked like just what they ordered! No way would I give them a refund. It looks fantastic!
Cool cake! I agree with everyone else... NO REFUND! You did exactly what you were asked to do. If she isn't happy, she doesn't have to order another one from you. It doesn't sound like she is the kind of client you would want to have anyway...
I am an easy going person, people pleaser-to some extent, but c'mon!
That cake rocks!!! everyone is correct, he sounds a bit spoiled and ungrateful and the mother sounds like she is the one who taught him that. she should have gotten you the pics you needed and been more specific. For sure don't give her a refund! no way, no how! Have a great day!!
Love your cake .No refund needed. If mom is too lazy to even tell you what her son wants then its not your fault.
Ditto!!! NO REFUND!!!
Your cake is awesome!!! You are so talented and an inspiration to others - like me - lol
Put her behind you and ignore their ignorance
You did what you were told to and more!!
Now No more!!
I also agree. No refund.
It is sometimes difficult (in the beginning) to set standards for customers (I think). For those of us that are 'easy pushovers' ......and want to please EVERYONE, we MUST learn to treat our cake making and decorating as a BUSINESS !! This was a VERY hard lesson for me to learn -- and one reason why I tend not to do cakes for "friends" and "family" much anymore. Until *I* can learn to be more assertive with people then I am backing off doing cakes unless *I* want to do them the way I want them done (is that selfish)?
I think you did a wonderful job on this cake. You did what was asked of you ....and MORE. Great job !!
