I would like to know if anyone out there has a teacup mold or where to find one. I have to do a baby shower cake with a teacup on it and the inscription reads...a little girl is brewing! So I eithe rneed a pattern or I need some advise . I do not fondant molding too well. Any help is welcome .thanks a bunch!
I made a cake with a teacup on top of it. It's in my gallery. I just lined a teacup with fondant and gumpaste mix. I dusted the inside of the cup thoroughly with powdered sugar first. For the saucer, I flipped the matching saucer over and put the fondant and gumpaste on top of the bottom. (Does that make sense?) I let it dry there for a day or two...I can't remember. When it was completely dry, I used a file to smooth out the edges. You have to file VERY CAREFULLY! I then just set the cup on top of the saucer. You can secure it with gumpaste gule if you want to make it a little more secure. I hand molded the handle and attached it with gumpaste glue after the cup was dry. I am not an expert by any means, but this was a pretty easy way to make a cup.
There is a great one on global sugar art. There is a fancy cup, regular cup and a teapot!

http://cakesdusoleil.blogspot.com/ Jackie has a great teacup tutorial on her site. Also see the Petalcraft video at globalsugarart which uses gumpaste and chocolate molds. http://www.globalsugarart.com/product.php?id=21939 Hope that helps some!
Bobwonderbuns -- the cakesdusoleil website is amazing! And thank you for the teacup link as well. It looks awesome!

Bobwonderbuns- Thanks so much for posting the cakesdusoleil website, its wonderful!! I have been looking for 10 mins on there though and I have not found the teacup tutorial. I must be missing it, or am I looking on the wrong one? Her teacups are fabulous! Thanks!

Boy you know you're right! I didn't even notice she took the teacup tutorial off the site. Anyway, write her and I'm sure she'd be happy to share. I know she's a CCer but I forget her CC online name. She's a really nice lady.
Yep, Jacque no longer has the tutorial on her site since she now teaches a class. Anyway, my biz partner took the class with her and she also makes fantastic tea cups, her user name is Serenatea, I'm sure she would help ... check her pics too.
Gaby, you always have my back!! I took Jacque's class....it was so inspiring. She uses an actualy tea cup as the mold. Just use lots of cornstarch on the inside of the cup to keep the gumpaste from sticking. Let it dry for 2-3 days. I also use the saucer to make a gumpaste saucer. But I put mine on top of the saucer, but I could see how putting it on the bottom would possibly show better detail. Once it's dry, just make a handle out of gumpaste and attach with gum glue. Then paint details on the cup with petal and luster dust. Jacque also used pastel chalk to add some dimention to the design.
They are soooo fun to make and so very addictive.
If you want to ask Jaque directly, her CC name is couturiere.
Good luck!! And post pictures....
I just saw this topic...
Just wanted to let you know that I never had the teacup tutorial on the website. I posted some of the teacups, but not the tutorial.
I do have a link to a few of my tutorials on the site.
I use a regular teacup and saucer as a mold. The trick, just as Patrice said, make sure you dust your cup well and use a firm gumpaste that is dusted well. After you cut the top edge flush with the cup, be sure to lift it out to make sure it is not sticking, then allow to dry undisturbed for about 30 minutes. Then I check to make sure it is not sticking again. If it is, I just gently lift it out and dust the cup again.
Once your cup is completely cured, you can add your handle and paint the design of your preference. It is really a fun process...so just have fun with it. After all, it is just sugar...and sugar is supposed to be fun!!
I used a wondermold, and carved it. Plate is gumpaste (made 4 days in advance).
