Just running dry on ideas I know the staple is chocolate or vanilla but I'll have a 2 tier stacked cake and would like to try something different and leave the vanilla for the kids and try something different for the bottom tier.
I would still want it to be kid friendly.
Thanks in advance
Just a thought but I did a cake that was just a plain white cake recipe. I seperated it into 3 batches & colored each with a packet of kool-aid, baked & stacked. I saw somewhere on here that someone did a similar thing & colored the icing in the middle to make even more colors so when it's cut it's a rainbow cake. The kool-aid will add color & flavor that's fun for the kiddos....just a thought.
What about Cookies n cream cake? I've also done vanilla cake with cookie dough filling - the kids went CRAZY for it!
funfetti.....you can buy store bought or add the colored sprinkles to a white cake batter. Everybody loves funfetti.
Jello is my best friend! Take your standard white cake mix and add one package of your favorite flavor jello. They make all kinds and the berry blue one is a favorite. Don't ask me why, but kids like blue things.
Enjoy your day!
Best,
Karen
Here is Wilton's cupcake recipe page, some of these sound fun.

I did a cake once for my niece that I swear tasted just like an oreo. I used Duncan Hines Fudge Cake and Did my own hazelnut icing using Starbucks syrup.
What about throwing peanut butter chips into your chocolate cake! That was a hit at my 6 yr old nieces birthday party. I like to crush the 100 calorie oreo cookies up in my BC for a filling on my chocolate cake too.
HTH,

Peanut Butter Cake
2 pkgs butter cake mix
1 1/2 c creamy peanut butter
1 1/2 c coffee creamer
1 c butter, softened
8 egg whites
Fill pans HALF full! It overflows if too full.
Filling
1 jar creamy peanut butter (2 cups)
2 pkgs cream cheese
2 c powdered sugar
2 c Bettercreme
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
...or you can use a chocolate filling or raspberry filling (for PBJ).
And there's Orange cake, banana cake, pralines-n-cream, butterscotch...

How about cotton candy? I forget the flavoring brand but im sure if you researched it you could find it.
Macsmom...when you say coffee cream...do you mean the plain liquid cremer?
Well, yes. I use the vanilla flavored, mostly, but I use butter pecan in butter pecan cakes, irsh creme, etc. for other fun cake flavors. Oh, and don't use the fat-free--it's fine but makes the cake a bit too dense.
