So last week I got an order to do a 40th birthday cake on Tuesday and they needed it Friday....well I work full time and do cakes on the side...I already had another order and a wedding cake consultation. So I didn't have much time to come up with anything. So this is how it ended up....I hate it. It did have swirls on the side but I hated them so I removed them and sprayed the whole cake blue. Please be honest...I can take it...is it that bad? For some reason I cannot get over how bad this cake turned out. I never heard back from the guy who bought it but that doesn't mean much. Anyway thanks for any comments!

It is absolutely not that bad. I can't tell the exact color of the cake from the picture, but it looks like a really pretty dark blue. We are our worst critics. I did a friend of mine's wedding cake, and I hated it. Everyone else loved it. Don't beat yourself up, it's precious and I bet they loved it.

In the picture the cake looks like a dark purple. I hate bad lighting.....As a decorator we always think the worst. Dont feel bad. I did a cake this past weekend and I hated it once it was stacked. The lady smiled and said she loved it. I got a mixed signal but she kept saying that she liked it and it was fine not to worry.... icon_confused.gif I couldnt help but worry. Mellormom is right. And next time you know not to do to much.

thanks y'all....I do feel better now....guess it's not that bad...just didn't turn out like I planned...but then again when do any of my cakes.

It was actually for a female....and I wanted to use pastel colors but I don't know what happened...it was so late at night when I was working on it....it's like a blur

Thanks for the comments!!

You're right - the cake looks crappy! LOL I'm just kidding. You did a terrific job - especially for short notice. My short notice cakes never make it to the internet b/c they're awful. Like others have said, our cakes are never as bad as we think they are. Someone once said:

I think it looks great! Lately I haven't liked anything I make so I know what you mean but it is because we have the pic in our head, no one else knows what we were thinking. So be proud and I am sure they loved it, it looks great to me!

i know how you feel. we are our own worst enemies and it' hardly ever as bad as we think, but when you have something in mind and can't execute it, it does have a tendancy to make it seem worse. i think it's a great cake! well done!

thanks again...wonder if I should send an email and ask how it went...to get an idea if they liked it.....the husband picked it up and he seemed to like it but you never know......it was for my wedding photographer...she is trying to promote my business so I'm really upset about this one....I'm thinking about sending an email just to ask how the party went and tell her happy b-day....they did invite me but I couldn't go thank God for that! I would have been embarrased.

I wouldnt send an emial asking about the cake...wait a couple of days or a couple of weeks and ask how her party went....if the loved the cake they will bring it up, but if they dont...DONT ASK!
