Ok guys,
What do you think the sizes of these cakes are. I think the bottom is 14" judging from the cake plate. Please help! I need to order dummies soon!
Thanks!

Sorry but I can't see the photo. Is there somewhere else I can look at it?

I'm thinking that top one is more like a 4" to me. Maybe a 4,6,8, 12?? There is definitely more "space" between the bottom and the next layer up so it looks to me like there's a 4 inch difference there..

I thought about that too. I think there is definitely a 4" gap at the bottom. But it looks like a 2" gap between the next one up, then the gap between the next two is smaller. That's why I thought it may be a 5" and not a 4".

Just google the best of the know magazine and go to images. Several of them will come up.

are you sure the bottom is a 12"? I mean...i think the size is deceiving because that bottom one is only 1 layer. I would say it's a 10" 1 layer for the bottom, then 8", 6", and then a 5" or 4"...do they even make a 5"???

I think there i s 2" difference b etween top and next one one down; then 4" difference between middle of the 3 tall pkgs; the bottom definately has much more difference....soooooooo
I'd go w/the 4,6,8,12 icon_smile.gif

Looks like 6, 8, 10 and 14 to me. The smaller ones look to be 6 in tall and the biggest one only 4 in tall.

Well, I'm pretty sure it's a dummy made for the photo shoot. You can special order.

For those of you who think it's a 6,8, 10, 0r 4,6,8... am I crazy??? The gap between the top two and the second and third does not look the same to me. The top has a very small gap, smaller than the next two down. If it were 6,8,10 then the gap would be the same size. Do you guys see that or am I just making that up?

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing but an 11" and 15" didn't make sense to me.

14, 10, 7, 5

Or

13, 9, 6, 4

Ok this is what I think....
I think its a 4", 6", 8" and a 12" bottom. They don't look that big and judging by the distance of space beneath the layers that is my prediction. But golly are they like 7" high that's crazy!!

Based on the fact that it's sitting on a footed cake stand that they usually don't make bigger than 12" across or so, and that the pre-made orchids aren't going to be more than 3" or 4" across, I'd say it's either 4,5,7 and 10 or 5,6,8 and 12. Also, look at the size of the plates and the cake server at the base of the picture.

The cakes they use for photo shoots are often miniature versions of a real cake. I saw a photo of Ron Ben-Israel's workshop once, and behind him were all of the gorgeous cakes that he had made for years of magazines, but it looked like all of them were about half-sized! That's another of my wedding magazine pet peeves, they put these styrofoam cakes on the footed stands, then the brides think that a footed stand will support a real 4-tiered cake!

LMAO! Here, let me go bake this cake real quick and I'll post a pic to see if you think the sizes are right... (NOT!)

I do want to make this cake one day, though! I love it.

I agree with the 5-6-8-12. The cake second from the top looks very cube-like so if it were a 3" pan, 2 tier, no filling cake...ta-daaa
Now unless they were 2" pans and the cake is torted, then that cube cake could be 5"...
Can you not write them and ask?

Did you try asking Marina what they were? I believe she was the one that did that cake. Marina Sousa from Just Cake of Monterey California. She might answer you if you email her or try calling them and she would probably tell you just what she did!

Thank you all so much! I'm still thinking 5,6,8,12.

The cake is by Truli Confectionary Arts. I did email them and ask, so if I get an answer I'll let you all know.

P.S. If anyone just wants to whip one up to see... make sure to post a pic! LOL

Why do they need to be specific cake pan sizes? Maybe they baked sheetcakes and cut them to size. Maybe 4, 5, 8, 12

There is no way a professional bakery like Just Cake would do that. They would have the correct pan sizes. I just wouldn't recommend making tons of sheet cakes to carve out individual shapes and sizes for a cake that large. It would take forever!

Oh, ok. I assumed that Just Cakes did it because she has the cover on her website. I just assumed it was hers.
They probably dont use sheet cakes to carve but they probably do carve. Places like Frosted Art with Browen carve all the time. So does Cake Divas, Cake Girls, Charm City Cakes, etc. It just makes more sense to carve then to have hundreds of different sized pans that they may or may not use all the time.

I think sommernoell didn't mean just cakes didm't do the cake but that just cakes would have the correct pans and not be carving up sheet cakes for basic pan shapes when she said

Oh, sorry. Didn't mean to stir up anything!

I meant: A professional Bakery wouldn't make sheet cakes and then cut the sheet cake to make regular sized squares when they could just use the correct pan sizes.

I am sure they would make sculpted and carved cakes, just not something like a square cake where they could just buy the pans. It would take forever.
