Molly, a fabric quilt or a cake that looks like a quilt?

Well - ya know Leah - a girls got to do what a girls got to do!! I figured the Wilton plate & supports was the most logical way to go . . .

But yes - I do have 2 - 6" plates - I have no idea how I missed that 9" tier in my order.

Oh - and another convert is heading your way too Leah!! DH and I have struggled, cussed and reworked the Wilton large leveler until until until - well lets just say I was just about to stick it someplace very unpleasant for DH tonight!! So he said - is this the only option you have? I said why no - there is the Agbay! He said - 'the what'. So I pulled it up on the net and to my surprise the regular one is only 150 bucks!! I thought the cheapest one was like $300.00 or more. So I am saving my money - possibly using the money from the wedding tomorrow and I am ordering one of those babies!

I won't be up much longer - but I will check back again before heading to bed. I'm getting mine iced and mostly smoothed, then I'll let them 'rest' for the night and finish up in the morning.

Yes, the single blade Agbay is $150. The Deluxe is $250. The Deluxe is pretty cool, too, especially if you torte your cakes.

Once you have it, you will never believe you caked without it.

I'm loking at an AGBAY right now! Can't wait to get one. I'll love having a 20" blade! Wish I could splurge on the double blade - maybe I should wait until I CAN get the double blade...

I'm about to try making one of those tilted stacked cakes like this one by paolocaracas http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_1236077.html

I've never done it before but there was a little advice in Cakes to Build a Dream On. Wish me luck!

Can you use the SPS system for uneven doweling?

Macs,
That cake looks like it's done with the styro blocks. I did do one a couple of years ago with SPS that was slanted like that by cutting the legs different heights. I'm not gonna recommend it. It worked for me, but I couldn't explain it to another person and her cake slide apart.

For a topsy turvey, the bottoms are actually resting flat and the tops are slanted, creating the optical illusion. I've used SPS for those.

Shellzey - Great Thomas cake!

I really like how you did the brick and the all of the depots. It is refreshing to see a new take on the Thomas cake! Nice work.

Great Thomas cake shellzey - I have a sheetcake with Thomas due for Sunday, and just did another one 2 weeks ago.

Leah - I have never torted a cake more than once - that gives me 4 layers of cake and 3 areas for filling or icing. I know people do more, but I really don't think I would ever do more than that. So would the basic Agbay be right for me?

I see by your tag line that you got hit by Ike too. We had a rough morning here as well - and massive power outages. I'm in a rural/small town area and everyone within a 1/4 mile of me including the telephone companies equipment boxes in my backyard were without power from Sunday 9:30 a.m. until Tues at 7:00 p.m. -- EXCEPT ME! I never lost power - someone knew I had too many cakes to bake that day!

I ended up feeding neighbors, doing their laundry, letting them take showers, running extension cords from our house to theirs to power up a lamp, tv and fan. I got my mom to stay with me the first night, but the second night she stayed by herself 'reading by the kerosene lantern'!!

But I agree with you - I don't like Ike either!! That is as close to a hurricane that I ever want to be in. We had lots of property damage as well as lots of corn crops on the ground.
