I just got the alphabet cutters for fondant and I am having so much trouble with them. I am using MMF and they keep sticking. I have dusted them and the ones that don't stick...I have to carefully cut the excess off which seems to take forever. Does anyone have any tips on using these? Also how long do I need to let them dry before handling them, painting, etc? I really love the fondant lettering. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jen

I've not tried them with MMF just plain fondant and have had no trouble at all-I really like using them! Maybe dipping the cutter in powdered sugar like we do cookie cutters before using them each time would help....sorry I can't help you further!

You can also try wiping the edges of the cutters with a little crisco, wiggle them a little bit after presssing the cutters into the fondant and lift off!

I find wiggling them helped.. but sometimes, even w/cornstarch, confectioner's sugar and crisco, they just stick sometimes .. I'm not sure if it's the MMF that just a bit sticky or what really... but I've had them do that to me too .. I know how frustrating it can be ... other times I've done them and had no probs at all ..

How about spraying the cutters with non-stick spray, not sure but that's what I doicon_smile.gif

Thanks for your replies, I will try dusting them again, and try the crisco and spray see what works. I'll just keep working with it. Maybe I'll try regular fondant too and see if that makes a difference.

I think you get the best results with regular fondant or gumpaste.

I just made some things with cutters and mmf. I found that if I added a little more powdered sugar to the mmf it helped make it not quite so sticky. I also put the cutters in powerded sugar. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
