Has anyone ever tried freezing them? Do you think they would be okay or would they thaw out and the cookie would not be good... Have a few molds and would like to make them for Christmas but I'd love to be able to do them ahead of time.

I have seen these molds, but where I don't remember. Do you know the site that has them? Especially free shipping. That is almost unheard of.

I would love to try those molds, but I am also curious about dipping by hand. But how do you do it? How do you hand dip the cookies without having fingerprints or anything on them? And how do you dip both sides? Please share your techniques as i would love to make some this holiday season.

Thanks

I put the cookie on a fork, dip it in the melted chocolate, then tap the fork on the side of the bowl to remove the excess chocolate. I slide the cookie off the fork onto parchment paper. The weight of the cookie flattens out any fork marks beneath the cookie. They dry perfectly. When I remove them from the parchent paper, I wear rubber gloves that I bought in the candy supply area of the cake store that I shop at. No finger prints. I slip each cookie into small plastic bags that I found at the same store - they're just the right size - and tape the end shut.

We made 24 dozen chocolate covered (white chocolate and milk chocolate) Oreos and 48 bags of chocolate covered pretzels for our department Christmas party last year. There were six of us dipping, decorating, and packaging the treats. We used over 20 pounds of chocolate - but I lost track of how much we actually used.

Rudoo - I buy Merkens chocolate at a the same cake store near my home.

Similar to Jocmom, (on a smaller scale, though!) I used Wilton chocolate wafers melted in a 2 cup glass measuring cup in the microwave. I used the Wilton plastic dipping fork dip, then tapped the fork against the measuring cup to allow the excess to drip back into the cup. I dried mine on wax paper, then drizzled them with a thinned royal icing mixture that dried to a hard finish. They were so simple to do, yet were impressive looking and tasted great! (They are the #1 request for Christmas cookies this year from my college-age daughter.) I didn't have any trouble with fingerprints, even without gloves. Good luck with your chocolate dipping icon_smile.gif

Thanks jocsmom and sweetlisa. I will give it a try soon. I have dipped candies in the past and always had a problem with them looking very pretty.

I recently tried the Wilton's candy melt and the Merckens and I have to say that the Merckens were hands down so much better tasting!!!

I live in Texas, so I guess I'll have to wait for winter to order Merckens candy melts. I don't like Wilton, but that is all I have available. If anyone down here knows of local sources, I would appreciate the information. Thanks!

For those of you that said you would like to make them ahead of time, I make mine up to 6 weeks ahead of time and they are just fine. I use candy coating bark from Kroger. I sometimes do peanut butter in them instead of Oreos and they are so good! I also use the plain molds and use crusting buttercream to pipe on Christmas designs.

delicious_designs7 Very nice ! I also have/like the cross design to. Yes I also have made mine a few weeks ahead and they stay nice and fresh.I think its because the choc seals the cookie so it doesent get stale.

delicious_designs7, jescapades and fiddlesticks....your cookies are awesome!!!! The froggies are too cute...my mil would love 'em.

mbt4955, I live in west Texas and ordered some merckens candy melts online about 2 weeks ago and they came in great shape...none were melted. Just wanted to let you know. And the company I order from got them too me within 3 days. I have to drive 40 miles to the closest Michaels or Hobby Lobby for Wilton products. The closest actual cake supply store is over 100 miles away.

I saw a website were they had the dipped oreos on a sucker stick and wrapped them up. I think that would be great also would help not to have fingerprints on them.

Wow I love the molds.

I don't have any so I am putting on my "cake goggles" and scouring the house for anything with the right diameter so I can give these a go.

Love you idea Sugarchic, putting them on sucker sticks!

One of my coworkers started making chocolate covered Oreos a few years ago and put them in gift baskets for clients. Her boss paid top dollar for those baskets. The following year she placed them in glass jars and fancy tins, tied them with fancy Christmas ribbon, and sold them to coworkers too. She couldn't keep up with the demand. I bought a tin, then asked her what kind of chocolate she used. At first she didn't want to tell me . . . then she agreed to tell me as long as I didn't sell them at work. Merckens chocolate. That's all I'll use now.

Has anyone used soap molds for chocolate? Spinningleaf.com has some really neat soap molds and I can't imagine that they wouldn't work.

Thanks!

I have been using soap molds for a while. I have like 6 different molds from spinning leaf and they gave me an extra one for free. They are very sturdy so they last longer than the regular wilton molds I have. I made the bite sized smore oreo cookies in the small molds and used almond bark and it was delicious.

Has anyone heard of the Hershey Kiss Oreo. I tried it at Harrah's in St. Louis, it was great. It looked like a big Hershey kiss. It had a oreo cookie bottom then I guess it was a chocolate mouse all dipped in chocolate. It was great. Anybody know where to get that mold?

I guess it was made with a giant mold becasue it had an oreo cookie bottom with I guess some kind of chocolate mouse tapered up then the whole thing was covered in chocolate. It looked great & tasted great, just like a huge Hershey kiss. I don't know how else you could make it unless you had a mold. Any ideas?

Fiddlesticks,
Thanks for the link. I found one mold (AO-60 medium kiss) that might do. I guess I'll just have to order it & then figure it out. They made such a great presentation that I would love to make these for a special occasion. My neice is getting married next year & already wants me to do the cake & these would also be great.
Thanks again
Nancy

Nancy I did not look to see if they carried the large one but the one I have is quit large and its in 2 pieces and when finished its about 5-6 in tall I believe! I used to coat the mold( in choc ) and then mix melted choc with nuts different candies etc and fill the center. Then you had all the goodies indside the choc. Did you check the hershey site to see if they sold any molds ?
