Is There Anyone Here Who Doesn't Like Cake Balls/pops?

I was so excited to finally try them but, after making them today, I realized I didn't like them at all. I used a nice most chocolate cake and pb and chocolate buttercream. Then I dipped them in chocolate like Bakerella's Martha Stewart video. Ick.
Everyone here seems to love these things. Am I the only one who'd just rather eat cake scraps and frosting?
I hate them! I really don't even like cake! Weird, I know since I decorate but I'd rather eat pie!!
First, I will say I've never tried one. Why? When I looked at the recipe(s) here on CC and saw it was a bunch of mooshed up cake with icing mixed in, it just sounded disgusting. Pure and simple disgusting.
When I clean off my counter of cake crumbs and icing bits, it's called garbage and it goes right in the trash can.
I've no desire to even try one after seeing the recipe.
Debi took the words right out of my mouth. They've never sounded good to me. We eat, as is, whatever I trim off my cakes. It never has time to sit around. Mashing it up with icing and filling just doesn't sound good to me at all.
I've only tried making them once and didn't really care for them at all. I think it was more a texture issue than taste. It's possible I could have added too much of the coffee creamer and made them too mushy, so I may have to try making them again sometime using buttercream.
I tried it once - I loved the first one, popped another in my mouth and said "ick". I love cake scraps, and i'll sometimes smear on some leftover filling, cream, or whatever. but why mash it up and ruin the texture, and mess up a good thing? I thought i'm the only one, guess not!
And here I thought I was the only one! LOL. It wouldn't occur to me to try and save any scraps. Like some of you have said, it's garbage. Now I don't know what to do. My husband actually liked them and they do look cute. Do I bring them to our family get together tommorrow or not? Hmmm. I hate to bring anything that I don't love myself but they were a fair amount of work.
I don't care for them either, but everyone around here that has eaten them LOVES them!
I don't like any of the recipes I've seen around CC. I think that coffee creamer is too sweet and I just don't care for the texture.
I make coconut cake ALL the time, and always have leftovers from leveling the layers. I make my own version of cake balls with a little bit of coconut milk. I roll them and freeze them, dip them in chocolate and roll them in coconut. Their beautiful all done. I still dont care much for the texture, but they taste way better than the ones with coffee creamers or buttercream.
I have never tried making these, however was going to attempt tomorrow. Has anyone thought of deep frying them like donuts...I think the cake consistency would make them alot like donut holes. Just a thought, I have a bunch of scraps from a new recipe that didn't turn out and thought maybe it would be a good idea.
Add me to the list! I tried them once and ewwww! I just did not like the flavor and I thought I would eat anything dipped in chocolate.
Here's another question. Am I the only one who doesn't eat cake anymore? I just don't like the taste of cake and buttercream icing anymore. I love the smell, I just don't have the desire to eat it. I can eat chocolate buttercream on cake but that's about it. I used to LOVE cake. What happened?
Too much of a good thing maybe? I'm not at that stage yet. I still love cake but I'm getting picky about it. I do believe I'm a bit of a cake snob.
Oh good! I thought I was just doing them wrong to make the texture so weird!
Not a fan here either, though I admit I had not heard of them until I got here, though I had been served them before at a friend's.
Any cake scraps around here are snarfed up by the DH almost as soon as I get them off. He likes them warm.
@KathyCC--no you are not the only one! I LOVE baking them, and am really getting into the fancy decorating now that I have found CC, but I really can take or leave cake, and if I am the one who made it I really don't want any. I feel I spent enough time with it in the making, I can pass on the eating. It just no longer seems appetizing. Good for weight control though!
I would rather have pastry any day over cake and icing, and the smushed cake balls just never appealed.
I think that they're absolutely disgusting! I think it's a texture thing too. I tried a batch just out of curiosity, and was going to take them to work. Needless to say, they ended up in the trash. My scraps usually end up in the trash too or in a trifle.
I tried them once and I HATED them.
Most of the time I just toss the cake scraps we don't eat or send them to my FIL. Once in a while I'll save the scraps and make something that calls for them but not very often.
I tried them but I didn't like the texture. I like to eat cupcakes with the frosting on the side. I don't like cake that much either. My friends ask me how can I bake so much and not like to eat the stuff I make?
I love creme brulees and other pastries. I only like pie crust with the juices from the pie, but not the stuff in the middle.
Me too! I don't like cake balls either. And I really wanted to. I made Bakerella's cupcake pops and when I finally tried one. Yuck!. It's the mushy texture that I can't stand.
I thought I would end up hating them, but each flavor I have made, I love. I haven't done any with frosting but have made several batches with liquid coffee creamer. My favorite were the chocolate ones that I added White Chocolate Mudslide creamer to and dipped in white chocolate. Mmmmmmmmm! I have also done French vanilla cake with Southern Butter Pecan creamer, dipped in white chocolate and sprinkled with crushed pecans. Those were a huge hit too!
I'd have to agree , they are pretty nasty. Like everyone else I thought I was doing it wrong but it turns out I'm not crazy. I really wasn't liking the texture
I was so excited to make them , because I love anything thats miniature or bite sized. I just baked a cake and used the whole thing to make them. Man I was so dissapointed. I just threw them all away. Not making those again. I should have just made some mini cupcakes.
I think they are gross. I can figure out why so many people love them? Like some of you, I guess it's a texture issue, as well as a sugar rush.
I still like cake, but HATE icing. I'm a cake snob too. I try not to be, just want to taste a moist cake. I don't want to wear my cake.
I never liked them myself either........ they just tasted like mush, until I tried them with german chocolate cake scraps, and mixed with the prepared coconut pecan filling. Just enough of the filling to bind the cake. Scoop, refrigerate, roll and dip......... those are good. Then I tried them using fudgy brownies, with nuts. They don't need any binder.. just roll and dip....... yummy again... Using textured ingredients makes the difference I think..
But seriously, for the same amount of work and time, I can have real hand dipped chocolate truffles .... there's a no brainer......
Well I guess I can throw out the 2- gallon sized bags of white cake scraps that I saved from today I had never heard of cake balls until I joined CC and I thought I'd try some with my leftovers from today. After reading all your responses, I think I'll just throw them out and save myself a lot of work.
My kids are usually around to eat the scraps....but their both away at college now
They're really that bad huh? I was gonna make some with kahula or irish cream, the real stuff not the coffee creamers
I've made them 3 different times now. 3 different ways, mini cones, pops, and just this past weekend did the truffles. everybody else LOVES them. The flavor is ok, I just don't care for the texture like others have said. Always a big hit though. dkelly~ if you haven't thrown them out yey you could always try them and send some to your kids! You'd be a hit!!

Don't throw them out just yet. I just got an order for 10 dozen. They are one of my hottest items.
We love them and I have tons of customers that are always ordering them.
Give them a try 1st.

How do you price yours? I haven't really sold any yet, but have made batches to take to work and everyone has been asking if I would make them for the holiday parties, etc. Of course! But I don't know what to charge.
Thanks!
Michelle104, what a great idea.....my son is in a dorm suite with 7 other guys (I can only imagine what that thing smells like right now ), they would probably eat those cake balls right up.
I'll have to do them without the alcohol of course
Lu9129, I haven't thrown the scraps out yet, do you have a favorite recipe that you'd be able to share? I have the bags in the fridge, should I freeze them until I'm ready to make them? I have a pretty big Wedding Cake to do for Saturday, so I don't know if I'll get to the balls before Sunday.
O.K., you guys convinced me to at least give them a try, I hate to waste all of these scraps, and if I leave them there I'll keep eating them.
I WISH that I didn't like eating cake
