I just thought I would share this with you. A few weeks back a customer of mine (not a friend. She is a friend of a friend). Sent out an email about celebrating her twins sweet 16.

Note #1: They were suppose to have a birthday party 6 weeks prior, but was misbehaving to the point the parents said no way to throwing them a big party.

Note #2: She sent an email about 5 weeks after their real birthday.

Note #3: She never wants to buy a large cake, if everyone doesn't get cake she doesn't care.

So she sends out an email to anyone and everyone she knows requesting a monetary gift to the twins to help fund this party. The venue balance was $300.00 so she was asking to help pay for the party location. They also needed outfits, food, DJ, limo drop off, decorations, CAKE. You get my point.

Then she sends a second email saying, I sent you all an email last week, we still have outstanding items yet to be donated. And oh yeah "CAKE - None" was listed as a hint hint to me.

We found out later the twins invited 150 teenagers. Now does she really think I was going to donate a themed, tiered cake for free for 150 greedy teenagers.

My friend and I had a good laugh about this for 2 weeks.

How about a donation of some good old fashioned MANNERS. Oh Dear God that is unbelievable! Gotta laugh, though.

Is that normal nowadays?! People just ask you to pay for their party?! Does the same go for weddings? I can see it now...Parents of the bride send out an e-mail asking for donations to the bride and groom to help pay for their wedding...

Wowee...new one there.

If they want to have a big lavish party they need to fork out that money. Its for their children. It does take ALOT of nerve to ask that from people. thumbsdown.gif Glad you didn't do it. thumbs_up.gif She might've asked for you left arm next! hehehe icon_biggrin.gif

She also then probably referred to the people coming to the party as "guests" rather than as "hosts", which is what they were. Have you thought about sending her Emily Post's most recent etiquette book with appropriate sections highlighted. Or Miss Manners's address.

At least she didn't put your name down as bringing the cake! I had a friend who's husband sent out an email that he was having a party for her...and it was going to be a POTLUCK icon_eek.gif . So he listed the things that he was getting from various places and by cake he had my name down (without consulting me) and it said...I know you'll do something nice. I was SO irritated. The sad thing was that I did make it...and then made sure to tell each family in our group that they'd ALL received a free cake at one time or another and the freebies were UP! Ugh. It amazes me...though it shouldn't. I've been reading on here how common it is. They think we have magical butts...I told my friend if I was able to magically pull stuff out of my butt, I coudl explain it's size! icon_smile.gif

Sorry that happened...but glad you stuck with it!

Oh .... and if I told my kids that their behavior resulted in a party being canceled, then that means CANCELED!!!!! Not "Postponed'!!!! icon_mad.gif

My sister is making a party for her son, he's turning three (by us, it's a big deal. i'm jewish, and it's the first haircut). I told her that I have adorable cupcakes that I want to make. i used to bake only cookies, lately i'm doing cupcakes and a cake here and there (hobby). So she starts telling me that her sister in law is making some sort of cupcake, and our sister in law is making mini cheesecakes in cupcake holders, and noone is making cookies "so i thought you could make cupcakes, but then again, i can't tell you what to make, but i want cupcakes, but you could make what you want" blah, blah, blah. I hate when ppl do that!!

I find this kind of behaviour inexcusable. We have a huge family and by huge I mean huge, my 4 yr old daughter's birthday party will include about 150 guests and that is just close family and really really close friends. Never in my wildest dreams would I even ask someone to provide something for her party, if it is offered, great but never would I ask. And if I did ask for help it would be to come and help me cook food that has been purchased by me. I have even asked people not to bring gifts, I already have toys r us in my basement, I don't think I have room for anything else.

And I have to agree with a pp who said, if the kids are misbehaving and the party is cancelled, then it IS cancelled. It is really scary what the world is coming to when people arrange for you to pay for their party.

Indydebi...EXACTLY. She didn't think they deserved a party 6 weeks ago..but I should foot the bill later. icon_evil.gif NO

GET THIS! My friend and I saw her the day of the party. And she tells us "I'm mad at ya'll (in a playful way)". I played dumb. I said what do you mean.

After the pitiful party, she sends out an email thank you with the pics from the party and said "here are the pics, and thank you for the ones who contributed....YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE".

No kiddin. She actually typed that.

How rude can people be? Geesh. I'm glad you didn't help support the party. My girls would have to be pretty darned bad for me to not have them a 16th birthday party - I sure wouldn't let them have it when they decided to behave for a while.

So I'm thinking of ordering a ton of stuff from Global Sugar Art for my birthday, who wants to pay for it??

I would if I thought it would help. She even threw an anniversary party for her and her husband's 4th or 5th anniversary and wanted everyone to bring food. It was a POTLUCK anniversary party.

I didn't go to that either. icon_wink.gif

For real? You're really not kidding? icon_surprised.gif It really doesn't surprise me one bit really though. One time I had a girl email me saying how much she loves my cakes and was wondering if I would SPONSER her wedding cake, lol. She said she was wanting a cake to feed 300 (she didn't want sheet cakes, just one big wedding cake) and she would refer me to everyone there. I emailed her and let her know that I would not "sponser" her cake because I never have a problem with my customers refering me without me even asking them to. Ya, I'm sure that everyone at her reception wants a spill about who sponsered what and her handing out business cards..... for real, come on!!! She acted shocked that I would not do this, she felt like she would be doing me a favor..... NO THANKS!!

This reminds me of that show on MTV "My Super Sweet 16"...those kids are so bratty, they talk to their parents any kinda way. tapedshut.gif The parents will say, 'oh well you can't do this and that' or they attempt to cancel the party but in the end the kids end up having a $200,000 party. So now they have this spin-off of the show called "Exiled" where it shows the former sweet 16'ers are 18 or older and still as bratty as ever and the parents decide to send them away to another country to learn about responsibilty, and the value of a dollar, or to help them appreciate what they are blessed with icon_eek.gif ....Correct me if i'm wrong but shouldn't they learn all that at home? Why would you burden another family with your spoiled child that should've been taught all these lessons years ago?! icon_confused.gif I would be embarressed if my child acted like that. I grew up the same way they did, i was given whatever i wanted..never had to ask twice, but I also worked my @$$ off for it. I got straight A's in school, and now I have my own business that i worked for. My parents didn't give me the money...my husband and i saved for it. Sometimes, i think they have them act like that for the cameras...thats the only way i can justify an 18 year old acting like an 8 year old. Sorry to hijack ur thread but i can't stand people that act like this is their world and you are just living in it...like u owe them something thumbsdown.gif

Kivia. I think the same thing. These kids are watching too much tv and forgetting these kids are celebrities' kids.

The party was here in Texas while Hurricane Ike was here and it rained all day. Why do they need a limo-drop off when no one would see them arrive. They were not drinking..they didn't even have formal gowns on.

Geessh...i'm so sick of the entitlement.

Who would ask someone to contribute to their kids party?? Thats absurd!

I have a cousin who is turning 16 in November and she asked her mom for a party. her mom said if her grades were good then she could have one. I personally think she doesn't deserve one for a number of reasons. 1) her mom has to yell at her all the time to clean up behind herself 2) she has more clothes on her floor than she does in the closet and drawers 3) she lies too much...her mom works her butt off to take care of them (its 4 of them...all girls) their father rarely help and they do not appreciate her one bit. All she asks is that they get decent grades and clean up behind themselves..i mean come on they are girls and they are the nastiest girls i know! My point is that these kids do not deserve these extravagant parties when they treat their parents like crap.
