you can also add some shortning or paramount crystals to the chocolate and it will give it an easier bite. i have had some melting issues in the summer, but never any other time. and i've never had them too hard to bite (i always use paramount crystals).

I've used paramount crystals in lieu of paraffin wax. I just like it better! icon_smile.gif

I just use a spoon of crisco to thin the chocolate. Got the tip here on CC

I use between 1/4 and 1/2 cup paramount crystals per lb of chocolate. It depends on a lot of factors though -- I usually eyeball it.

Oh thank you...thank you...thank you!!! I am sitting here with a huge smile on my face. You have made me feel SO good and proud!

The transfer is a bit of a pain but not too bad. I traced the bottom of the mold onto a piece of thick paper, cut it out and then used that as my guide for the transfer. Cut it and then put it into the mold before filling with chocolate. You have to be careful that it isn't sticking up along the sides anywhere, otherwise, chocolate gets past it and messes up the design. For the monogram I just used a stencil with some white chocolate.

Thanks again for the smile today!

By the way, has anyone else had problems with gaps in the chocolate right by the middle of the cookie. I found that I have to use a toothpick to push the choc. down, since the tapping method doesn't work. Are the oreos just too big?

Also has anyone tried flavoring the chocolate?

I ordered 5 molds this past Thursday. Can't wait to get them. I called the cake supply store that I frequent and they do sell the Merkens chocolate so I think I'll give that a try. For Christmas I ordered the ornament mold. That one doesn't look too difficult to paint. I really like the snowflake but I didn't get that one cause it looked a bit too tedious and time consuming.

I have the snowflake one and it really isn't tedious. Just get some white in there, mold like normal, and then I put a little luster dust on the flakes when done in order to give it a little 'pop'. I'll try to do them again and post it.

Oh, please do. If it's not that bad to do, I may just have to order that one too. I really love the snowflake designs.

Whoever started this thread should contact spinningleaf and take credit for their increased orders!!! I wonder if they are trying to figure it out?

Butternut: They send out a free mold with your order. I got the snowflakes for free with mine and I love them. I was so happy because that was a design I wanted, but was limiting myself. It was like they read my mind and sent it free. icon_biggrin.gif

For anyone purchasing them to make large quantities of cookies-I suggest getting at least 2 of each mold design. Making just 6 at a time can be time consuming.

Saberger: I have that same problem with the sides-I've gathered it's mostly from the cookies not being evenly stacked themselves. I'll try the toothpick idea. You're right, tapping it doesn't work.

When these molds first hit the market last year, there was a lengthy thread about them on CC. Naturally, I had to order some, too! When I did, I mentioned how popular they were here, and they emailed back wondering who had started recommending their molds. They ended up sending her one of every mold they make! So, yeah, they know all about CC.

I was just wondering if it would be possible to airbrush chocolate...so I did a search. I found a site, www.rubberchef.com hey have a lot of chocolate stuff, transfer sheets, etc. Anybody shop through them? It seems like it is really for the professional, since the transfer sheets are sold in bulk, but SO much cheaper!!!

Anyway, to answer my own question, I think you can only airbrush choc. with choc.....is that correct?

Here is what I did with mine. Should have made the pic before packaging! The pumpkin is a separate little mold I have so I just attached them after I molded the plain oreo!
Don't know if it will attach!

re: the gap that happens where the filling in the cookie is... i've had that problem a few times before and here's what i do. i fill the mold with enough chocolate so that when i push the cookie in, it floods up the sides and comes up over the top. then i tap tap tap, so the chocolate will settle into that space.
