I dont think it changed the flavor! I really dont use it much at all sometimes with white choc because white is so much thicker.
I know once I added to much of the wax chips ( to milk choc ) and I didnt care for the texture of the molded choc at all it was just wierd !

Do the crystals do the same thing as adding shortening to the chocolate?

YES they do . to be honest I use paraffin wax. and mostly just when I make pb balls I like the shinny look it gives the choc and gives you just a slight crunch to the pb balls. I prefer it over the other. Though Like I said I have used it a few times .

I'd been told years ago to use paraffin. How much do you use per lb of chocolate?

Most all of my recipes have always said 1/3 bar. Now I just hack off a piece close to that and its fine. Just make sure you always melt it on low heat first then add the choc and continue to melt.Paraffin is my first choice, I have been using it for yrs !

My chocolate preference for the Oreos is "Ghirardelli's Double Chocolate" bar (2.5 lbs.) that Sam's sells around the holiday season (in stores now!). It isn't "real" chocolate, so it doesn't have to be tempered, but it tastes divine. When I run out of that (I stocked up big time last fall, and still have a couple bars) I use a half and half mixture of Wilton CandyMelts and chocolate chips.

I am also happy to report that while in Lincoln, NE for the day yesterday (watched the Huskers football game with them) we hit a local grocery store and they had the banana split Oreos! And they were on sale! And they taste yummy! I'm going to be molding them later today.

angela.. Can you go ahead and just dip them in choc and add a decor on top?
Im so sorry, Whens the shower ? maybe they can overnight the right ones to you ?
well i don't know how to dip them? hehe dumb huh? the shower is this weekend. thnx fiddlesticks for saying your sorry. i don't know even know how to melt the choco. i thought of using choco bark or candy melts. would i need to add parrafin wax? i wasn't going to worry about how to do them til i got the molds. icon_biggrin.gif you know, i am pretty smart (most of the time), but some things do confuse me, fear of messing things up i guess, lol!

did you get my email fiddlesticks?? i do stay at home with my kiddos. my youngest is 18 mths, his name is Phoenix.

They're not that hard. Just melt some almond bark or candy melts. I use a double boiler or slowly in the microwave. Dip. I use a plastic fork w/ the 2 middle tongs broke off then tap off the excess. Put on wax paper & let dry. Add shortening if it gets thick. White almond bark is more of a pain & thickens easier & crumbs show up if you don't dust off the cookies. Sorry if this is a repeat response. i'm going back & forth between windows.

Hey.. Yep I did get your email But I have had a house full of company all weekend and didnt have a chance to respond, sorry !
Dipping oreos in melted choc is so easy ! You can use the parrifin or not , either way, and yes you can use candy melts! And in any color you want to . Just melt them and( I do this ) I drop the cookie in the melted choc and scoop it out with a fork and tap the fork on the edge of the pan/ bowl ( depends on if you melt in a pan or microwave in a bowl) and let the extra choc dri off and lay them on a piece of wax/ parchment paper till set or stick in fridge till set ! super simple, they wont be perfect like the molded ones but still cute just the same! you can make them in baby colors etc ?
