Please please, laugh all you want but if you laugh, you must share your stories as well.

I've made many an Angel Food cake in my days or the last few months however. Anyway, we have company coming over tonight and I'm making a lasagna and while at the store shopping for ingredients, I got a wild hair (you know where) and decided to make dessert as well.

WELL, I got the whites to a stiff peak and all was looking good so I put it in my Angel Food pan, threw it in the oven, set the timer, and a little bit later I started to smell it. "Never smelled that before!" A light burning smell. I checked it and was proud that it was rising nicely. I turned around and there it was sitting on my counter plain as day.....THE BOWL WITH THE CAKE FLOUR AND POWDERED SUGAR MIX!!!!!!!!!! icon_mad.gif

So what I managed to bake is a freaking meringue!!

I'm so steaming mad but kind of laughing inside too. I don't know whether to cry and be peesed off that I just wasted a dozen eggs or laugh because it's so dumb!!!!

I am glad that I am not the only one that has done something like that. There have been a few (at least not too many) things that I have cooked and left something out! That usually happens when I get too many things going at one time.

icon_cry.gificon_redface.gificon_surprised.giftapedshut.gificon_lol.gif That is usually how I feel!

Two weeks ago I put the teapot on and forgot to add the water. After about 20 minutes I could smell something very wrong. The pot started to cook!

It didn't match my kitchen anyway, so now I get to buy a new one (:

We have all done stuff like that before! I know that when I have mixed up several cake mixes at a time I have added too many eggs...or not enough because I lost count somehow! icon_smile.gif

I can't tell you how many times I've looked at my cake batter and said "something's missing" .. then I'd start looked to make sure I added all the ingredients... it's always the oil or the eggs with me that I forget for some reason lol ... so don't feel bad.. we've probably all done it before icon_biggrin.gif

The last time I remember doing something "dumb", was I was baking two chocolate cream pies and it seemed a little thinner than usual but I thought it was just my imagination, I was beating the egg whites for the meringue when it occurred to me, I had doubled the half and half, the sugar, the cornstarch, the chocolate, etc......I had failed to double the eggs.....I was so mad at myself......I had several very large orders that day and just had to many things going on at once........oh, well, live and learn! I slowed down a bit after that. icon_lol.gif

I've got a story to add here. I was making 2 chocolate mousse pies at work - to save time I had bought pre-made pie shells. Well goofy me didn't realize I needed the graham cracker crusts and I had bought the frozen kind - The mousse was so tasty and yummy that it took a co-worker 2 pieces before he noticed the pie crusts were doughy! I forgot to bake the crusts since they weren't graham cracker!

I made the most beautiful pumpkin pie once and forgot the sugar. It was tragic then, but I've never forgotten it since. :d

I've never laughed so hard..lmao.Where do you work..lmao.

My last dumb thing was I switched my oil and water measurements. It was the thickest mix I had ever seen.I thought what is wrong with this.I reread the recipe and realized what I had done.I had wasted 6 eggs and 2 cake mixes.lol.We learn from our mistakes.

awww, cakemommy!! so sorry that happened, especially with company coming... icon_sad.gif But I'm sure the next one will come out perfectly!

Just wanted to say: your name says it all! "CakeMOMMY"!!! You're a mom - you're forgiven....Here's my theory (or excuse) that I use when I do those "dumb" things: With each child I've given birth to half of my brain has come out after them!! lol So...considering I have 3 kids!!!! icon_confused.gif lol uuummmmmm......well, anyway - everyone's alive & well, fed & bathed, played with & happy at the end of every day....& I've accomplished it all with my 1 good brain gone and only 1/2 of the one I didn't know I had left!!! icon_lol.gif lol When you look at those "dumb" things you do with that kind of logic, you can't help but laugh....even if it's at yourself!!

here is my dumb story to add - straight from my latest cake...

i was trying out MMF for the first time, laaaate Thursday night (must add here that i plan seminars and Thurs was our annual big thing - except it was the first of the season (i'll do 11 this year) and we tried a new thing for the first time, 2 in one day...so this was not only the culmination of 2 weeks of intense stress for me but waking up early(4:00) and travelling around AZ all day).

anyway so i'm figuring out MMF, finally get a piece rolled out, and cut into a circle to be a girl's face. was so proud of my accomplishment and first piece of anything fondant-related. i was trying to figure out how to dry it...well silly me, i said to myself, 'i think i read somewhere on cc that you can dry it out in the oven on the lowest temp'. (here everyone start to moan) so i put it on a cooling rack on the top rack in the oven, and put it on 150, and get to work on the next things i want to cut out of the MMF.

10 min later, my timer goes off and i look in just as my fiancee walked in...melted MMF all over the cooling rack, oven top rack, and the oven bottom....arghh. Fi goes, 'you better clean that up' and i give him the evil eye.

needless to say, i realized i should've gone the opposite way - the fridge - to harden it up. oops! the rest went well, and i am going to post the girl cake in my photos right now to prove it icon_wink.gif

I have never felt so stupid in my life and no hubby doesnt let me live it down LMAO can anyone top that ???? icon_eek.gif

Okay folks heres one more dumb story, went downstairs to start the washing machine ( run water first then add clothes) come back upstairs and get busy doing something else and later figure its about time for washing machine to be done only to find clothes still in basket.

LOL, thanks for starting my day with lots of giggles.

I procrastinate terribly, and I had to do 100 bluebells in the lily nail...for a cake due two days later. I figured I'd help them dry a little quicker by putting them in the oven which I had prewarmed to about 100 degrees. Well, they did dry quickly on the outside, but too quickly...the wet icing inside was so constricted by the rapidly-drying icing on the outside that all of my bluebells had these long snake-like squiggles extruding out of the centers where the wet, compressed icing had escaped through little holes. It was pretty freaky.

I put another batch in the oven just so they'd be in a dry environment (no humidity with a pilot light), and forgot about them....hubby turned the oven on to preheat it for something and soon the smell of melting plastic filled the house....my flower formers had curled up and deformed. I don't use the oven for this purpose anymore. LOL

I had such a laugh at this story! I've done something similiar. I've left the washer lid up so the clothes didn't finish the washing process! They just sat in dirty water for hours!

These are great stories! I'm really glad I posted my goof!

My biggest goof was pre-cake making too. We used to have fruit trees all over our property at our other house, so I made pies and preserves all the time. I was constantly making pies and taking them to my husbands office. Well, one day I brought one in and the guys were eating it, but pulling the top crust off. My husband asks what I did to the pie b/c it tastes really bad on top.So I tried it. Darn if I didn't put lawry's seasoning salt on top instead of the cinnamin sugar mix! I had them both in clear tupperware spice containers, and I guess in the rush of getting kids out of the kitchen so I could get the pie in the oven, I must have grabbed the wrong container! I was so embarrased. But they ate the whole thing (minus the top).

Alright! Since I laughed, I guess I have to share...I take a Three Milks Cake(for a customer) out of the oven and put it on the cooling rack. While working on other things, I moved the cake without the rack onto the stove to make room on the counter...AND didn't know I bumped the burner on!! Hmmm....what's that smell? Good thing I was still in the same room!! That's an involved cake to have to make again!!!

The worst - Our first Thanksgiving in our new home, fortunately it is just hubby, child and me. I put the turkey in the oven and go about doing other things around the house, then take a nap! I wake to wonder why there is no lovely turkey smell wafting through my house icon_confused.gif ...guess it would have helped if I turned the oven on!!! icon_cool.gif Luckily, I jumped on the web and found on the food network site how to fast bake a turkey! Dinner was saved, but man did I feel icon_redface.gif ! One nice thing is, before going vegetarian, I didn't have to spend all day cooking turkey anymore!! icon_lol.gif

These stories are so great! They would be even funnier if I had not done most of them myself. I have left the washing machine lid open, I have forgotten to put the clothes into the washer in the first place, I have put clothes in the dryer and not turned it on, I have had fondant in the oven on a cookie sheet and then turned the oven to preheat and I have forgotten to double something in a recipe. Either I am incredibly normal or really a klutz!!!

What a coincidence to see this thread this morning! I attempted to make a pineapple upside down cake yesterday. After I put it in the oven, I unloaded the dishwasher and went to clean the countertops and lo and behold - there's the can of pineapple still sitting there! Luckily this cake was just a dessert for my family! Anyway, the cake hadn't been in the oven but just a few minutes, so I poured the batter out into a bowl, threw the pineapple in, and poured the batter back in! The cake tasted great, but of course it fell apart when I took it out - my family didn't care though - it was all gone by the end of the evening! thumbs_up.gif

I have had a long laugh after reading all the stories!!! I like the seasoning salt the best! Mchelle, I have forgotten to take the giblets bag out of the turkey too! Good thing it doesn't ruin the turkey! LOL!!

I drink hot tea in the mornings. Well just this morning I got a cup & the tea bag ready. I put the cup in the microwave. Turned it on & realized I never put water in it! DA! I do things like that all the time!! WE ARE ALL NORMAL!!!! ha ha ha!!

I forget what I'm doing all the time! I guess I do too much at a time! I thought I forgot oil in the last choc cake I made. It was for my cousins wedding rehearsal on Fri. night. I didn't taste the cake till everyone else started complimenting me on it. I waited to taste it to see if they were lying!! LOL!! They weren't. I did add oil & the cake turned out soooo good!! And I don't even like choc cake!!

Oh my gosh, these are all too funny.
Okay, I'm not even a mom yet and I already do plenty of dumb stuff. Not on too much of a regular basis, anymore. On more than one occasion, I have doubled a recipe and forgotten to double one ingredient. I made banana bread one time and doubled everything but the flour. I was like, man this is really soupy! So I figured out what I did and added the rest of the flour. But you know quick breads, too much mixing and it is tough! The flavor was good, but the texture was terrible.
I have also turned on the wrong burner several times. Boy does it smell funny when something is on that burner that does not need to be cooking! I ruined a burner cover, DH told me I couldn't get new ones until I went long enough without turning the wrong burner on and ruining something else! (I still don't have new burner covers-ha!)
