I feel like I should buy stock in a parchment paper company. I use A LOT of it.
Do you reuse your parchment for more than one baking?
I'm thinking of buying silpat. Do these have to be cleaned after each baking?
Do you find that the silpat works as well as pacrhment?

I use one sheet of parchment per cookie sheet.........if I'm rotating two cookie sheets then two sheets........whether I'm baking 20 cookies or 200......I use the sheets until I'm totally done baking all of the cookies I need.
I've even reused it for a cake....Like if I have to bake 2 1/2 sheet cakes, I bake one, flop the cake out, respray the parchment and pop the next one in. If I know I'm going to do that I bake off the vanilla cake BEFORE the chocolate just in case there is any sticking!
I reuse my parchment all the time. In fact...I probably should throw it away way before I really do!
Sure do! Unless they are really messed up (chocolate cookies tend to make 'em yucky!), I wipe them with a damp paper towel. You can also flip them over .. but I'd still wipe them down. If you don't, any sugars, cinnamon, etc., will bake onto your pan.
The people who responded before know WAY more than I do, but I have never wiped them or anything-- as long as I am doing the same kind of cookies. There are 3 that I used for gingerbread that I know got used AT LEAST 12 times each before I threw them away and started over. And they were still working just fine, but the edges were turning dark and I didn't want to have a problem.
I also re-use my parchment, I have folded it up & slipped them into a zip bag then take out to re use. BUT I do LOVE LOVE LOVE my silpats. I used to wash the silpats by hand till a friend said to put them in the dishwasher & BOY did they finally come out clean again - treat yourself to 2 silpats, you will love them for cookies & candies & more !
I use parchment for cookies and cakes and love it but I feel the same way, it's adding up so I may buy silpats, too. Birthday and Christmas coming up. Meantime, yes, defnitely reuse them!
I have cheap 'silpats' and I have for real silpats and the cheap ones leave thier odor in the cookies when I baek on them. This is not a scientific test or anything I just make sure I don't use the cheap ones for anything that's getting baked & eaten. Like they'd be good for lining a pan to set chocolates on or something. Just my silicone observations.

That's good to know. Our grocery store has their own brand of baking mats and they are less than 1/2 price of the silpat brand. I've wondered it they could be inferior. I might buy one to try and will keep the receipt and just try a couple of cookies on it for my own silicone testing
