I enjoyed the show, loved the birch tree cake, thought the convertible was very sloppy & the guy that made it thought he was soooo special.......he wasn't. Of course I will continue to watch the show....it's about cakes, love cake shows.

I am very jealous. I don't have cable and not worth the price just to watch a couple shows. My grandma recorded on her tivo, but not sure when I can get there (3 hrs away) to watch it. I wish she could place on dvd, but not sure how. Would love to know if anyone has. She has saved some of the cake challanges for me to. I tried going on the website, but the video is only sneak preview. No real shows, darn I wish there were full episodes.

I totally agree! When that guy was on, the church lady from SNL was in my head saying "Well, isn't that special???"

you know, I have to admit that while I loved the cakes, I wasn't all that impressed with the show. It was an hour long feature four cakes and what I thought too much 'staged' drama. Plus film-wise, it was overall low lighting and not very welcoming. It's obvious NOT geared to teach anything.

I'll watch it again - it's cake related - but no way does it top Duff.

One good thing about it is that it definitely showed the different cake decorator 'styles' and set-ups. I like the partnership with two ladies of the car. I so lack a business mentality and know I would need a business-minded partner.

I didn't love the show. I liked the Cake Girls quite a bit but was suprised that they called a client "stupid" on national TV. I wonder what the bride and groom thought after seeing that.

The lady with the flowers needed to get a grip. It's one thing to be a perfectionist, it's another thing to be a jerk. She managed to be both.

The Cake Divas were a bit scary. LOL! Did anyone else notice how much they scratched their faces or noses and then continued to work on the cake?

I totally agree with you regarding the quality of the show, it was not well presented & I also thought they could have shown more. Cake Girls website is very nice, they were without a doubt the best, but I don't like to hear anyone called stupid at anytime & on national TV it is awful.

I'll watch it for the cakes but while these people have alot of talent, I am not interested in the drama that goes on between decorators/owners. I didn't catch the "stupid" remark but it's a big faux pas and frankly so is all the eyerolling between owners when they don't agree. Duff's show doesn't teach alot per se but it certainly looks like he's fun to work for, more than I can say for any of the three profiled on the program.

I don't get when they receive a call for a wedding cake the week of the wedding. I do not do wedding cakes, but come on, don't people have to call months ahead of time? That has to be staged.
I went on the website for the shop in Chicago yesterday, I can't remember the name it starts with an "A", and it said they have parted ways and are closing business. Anyone else see that?

Do you mean the shop in New York? The Cake Atelier? That wouldn't surprise me. Those girls seemed like they were night and day. I don't think the Cake Girls in Chicago has closed down. Aside from the fact that they are sisters, they have a really good reputation in Chicago.

Don't get me wrong, I like Duff. I really do. But seeing some of teh other cake people out there (Mike from WA, The Cake Girls etc), it seems like other cake places put out an even better product.

No doubt about that....you could tell they didn't gel too well! Lauri has her own business called Cake Alchemy, I think that's an awesome name thumbs_up.gif

This is a good show. I like the way they create and decorate huge wedding cakes. They do not give much instructions on how to make the cake, but it's a good show, I still prefer to watch "Ace of Cakes" with Duff, I like his ideas and he can create anything know to man and I like his personality.

Does any one know how they made the spider web for the skull cake? She said it was a slow drying royal icing but she could pick it up and shape it. She designed it on wax paper and peeled it off and it was soft but sturdy. It was shiny so whatever else she added to it had a shine to it.

I agree, it was probably SugarVeil:

Did anyone else notice that the redhead at Cake Divas did not remove the dome from her cake and she had like an inch of filling between the layers of the Windmills cake for Ed Begley?

Ok, maybe I was just in a bad mood but the Cake Atelier lady, I think her name is Ruth, is driving me to the edge of madness with her constand babysitting and nitpicking of the other girl. She is such a kill joy. And snotty on top of it! I want to scream at her "You run a business lady - when someone comes in asking for a certain product, you do not wrinkle your lip in disgus!!!" And further more, if she was so flippin' opposed to the skull cake, why didn't she just take a back seat and let the goth chick go to town on it?? I wanted to reach thruuuuu the t.v. set and strangle her with my bare hands.

And who is too blame for too few flowers.......her. I swear, she is going to make me crazy. ok, I am done.......(talking about her).

Now on to the Cake Diva's from LA. I can't stand them and I don't know why. Perhaps it's the abrasiveness of the one who is always on the phone (with the Martin Scor.......forget it).

Anyway, when I watched last night as she put her hands on the windmill and broke the darn thing, and then walked away, FOR THE LOVE OF MARY!!! She is lucky I am not her partner, as I would have removed her spleen.

I love the sisters - love, love, love. I think Mary seems like the creative part and the blonde sister (forgive me, I am having trouble keeping track of all the players names) is the business end. Which is probably why they are still IN business. They seem to have a nice give and take relationship which I admire and respect.

Ok, who else is there? Who am I forgetting because I thought someone said there were 4 and I can only think of 3...........shoot.

Oh me too, they get under my skin..........maybe it's the hairstylist in me but man I just want to send that woman a gift certificate to spend the entire day at my salon so I can give her a makeover. Did you see her eyebrows and upper lip hair? I mean my God do they not offer make-up/hairstylist to these people. Maybe it's my HDTV, I can see every little imperfection icon_lol.gif MEOW MEOW!!

Also, I was disappointed in that Butterfly cake that the other girls made. For $600, that was a pretty easily executioned cake. Just cutting white butterflies out of gumpaste or fondant whatever they used. When the guy placed the order I envisioned some delicate butterflies with a little more detail. I thought that was a rip-off personally

I totally agree on the butterflies. I thought they were making the butterflies out of RI or something. It takes me forever and they are so fragile out of RI, but cutting them out, PLEASE... put on as many as you want.

I'm lucy that my Dish records shows tha I mark, and I can watch them whenever I want.

The two girls from Chicago have done several Food Network Challenges and have won at least one that I know of. I think they are pretty cool.

The ones in LA, I don't care for. When they guy started crying, it made me laugh. Get a grip, stuff happens.

Sorry I posted about the web before I read this thread. I have only been up since 3:00 this morning. icon_cry.gif
