i agree wth you tye
in facta few month ago i read about how on Extreme Home Makeover they do *takes*. In one instant they dit three takes of the homeowners reaction to the makeover of their home..so certain parts must be rehearsed
Tye, I could see that as being true. But nevertheless, the Cake Divas - I just don't get it at all! Even that one assistant is disgusting - the one who helped the red head. Not so much her appearance as much as how she acts. She has a real attitude problem most of the time. I don't think I'd like to work with her.
Oh, it drives me nuts how every episode of that Extreme Makeover show all of the designers are crying the whole time.
dkelly, I know, there are men out there that care a lot about their looks, and want to make a good impression, etc. I was just trying to say as politely as possible that she probably doesnt care about those things. I dont want to say the wrong thing and get anybody mad or get into an arguement over labeling someone. Someone earlier touched on the subject. She could have a self esteem problem or she just feels more comfortable that way. But I do agree that if she is going to be the face to the business that she needs to be more professional, and dress professionally. If she is going to just be the person doing the books, then well then, hay, she can look the way she wants to!
I personally, wouldnt even walk out the door before without having makeup on and my hair done. Now that Im busy, I might skip the makeup if Im just around the house but I insist on taking a shower every day! But I think that some people might think that is even a bit much. Ive had friends that wouldnt take a shower or wouldnt shave their arm pits unless they thought they were going to be seen. That totally grossed me out! But like I said, to one person I might be fanatical!!
sugaredup.. i think she's told to act like that.. and i swear i've seen her somewhere before... rita the diva..
What about the whole issue of putting fondant(how ever you like to say it) in the fridge???

No, I completely got what you were saying,
I actually have a sister that doesn't put an ounce of time into her hair or make-up and it drives me nuts. She says her husband likes the "plain" look Whatever floats his boat I guess.
My DH's Uncle was our Bestman years ago and my Sis was the Matron of Honor. Well, last year at my Dad's funeral the Uncle couldn't wait to see my Sis again, he thought she was "a hotty" his words not mine. He was shocked to see the "plain" look. What he doesn't know is that the day of my Wedding I did all 7 of my Bridesmaids hair and makeup, she looked gorgeous. Of cause this was also 26 yrs. ago so we've all changed.
Primping just isn't important to everyone, I'm in the business so I find it incomprehensible. I've seen woman come into my Salon with that "down in the dumps look" and after they're made over they leave with a huge smile on their face. It completely lifts a person's spirits. It's very fulfilling to be a part of that.
I think....the cakedivas are sloppy and that pink cake was a mess!!
I liked the concept of the cake girls cake but they should have given Laurie a call and had her whip up those rings, I bet she could have pulled them off and they would have shined!!! lol
Just MO plz don't hang me....
Ok, I agree with a some of what has been said before me, but I do have to say i am a plain jane, I love make up but i do not feel that i have to have it on before i go out. I wear it when i feel like it, to each is own. I think it is ok, for these women to be themselves instead of being so concerned about their appearance. Look i am just saying its cool to look the way you feel comfortable.
I am also kind of happy that they don't show the cakes without faults, because it is nice to see the so called professional have issue with stuff.
The challange on Food tv labeled:city skylines (i think)
Those were the worst cakes ever on that show.
WOW....this is my first time coming on here to read these comments and I am literally LOL! The cake Divas.....My daughter and I (she is 19) laugh each time we see the girl up front because we too say you can actually smell her through the tv. GROOMIMG is sooooo important!
krambkakes
Sugar Frosted, I thought I was the only one that got erked when someone called it FAWN-DANT. Everytime someone says that I want to scream!
There's a guy who does many of the cake challenges....Norm something...and he says FAWN-DAWNT ALL the time. It's maddening. Last night I was talking to my husband about cakes and he mentioned "FAWN-DAWNT" jokingly because he knows how irritating it is.
Was that really the last episode???? I'm so upset, I really love that show and just starting watching I was looking at each stores website and saw that "The Cake Atelier" if you try to go to their website, it says they are no longer doing business together and leaves a phone number to call each one seperatly. Maybe thats part of the reason the show isn't on anymore? Is the show cancelled all together, or was is it just the season finale?
Does anyone know of any other shows similar to this one, other than "Ace of Cakes"? I love all of these.

I don't know if anyone mentioned it in this thread already but the Food Network has all kinds of cake challenges, it's called Food Network Challenge. They are a lot of fun to watch. It's a contest between 4 or 5 cake bakers, they win $10,000. They do birthday cakes, wedding, engagement cakes....Disney villans, Disney princesses. It's better then Ace of Cakes because it's an hour long!
dkelly, I know what your saying. I would love to get my hair done and makeup, etc. because your right, it makes you feel so much better when you leave. My hairdresser went nuts last year and now I dont have anyone that does it. Not that I cant trim my own bangs but like you said, it feels good to get pampered! I would even love to get a pedicure at this point!
I really think that the Cake Diva lady needs to go to a salon or something. Just to look professional. And I think her "significant other" would approve!!
I dont think they stopped the show because of Cake Atelier, I think it was only suppose to have that many episodes to it. Ace of Cakes usually has about 9 I think for its season also. Its just they do reruns of it during off seasons.
Not to stay off-topic, but I LOVE make-up but can't wear it. I have tried every brand out there, hypo-alergenic, water based, oil based, even mineral make-up, which actually burns my face. They all make me break out really, really bad. One special occassions, I wear it for a few hours then I have to washs it off my face, even then I break out. So I am a "plain-jane"
Okay, back to topic. I LOVE Laurie and I too am a perfectionist. I spent 5 hours molding two toys for a cake yesterday. If she want's to spend all-night doing something over, it's her choice. I am the same way. Ruth is too stuffy and needs to leave Laurie alone. I understand why they are split.
Love CakeGirls, nuff' said.
Cake Diva's are disgusting and their cakes are the sloppiest I have ever seen.
I finally got to watch this episode last night so I'll put in my 2 cents worth. Cake Atelier bugs me to death and Ruth is a really bad actor. But I loved the bubble cake and thought that Laurie did an awesome job! I would love to be able to make sugar bubbles but I would probably just burn the crap out of my hands and end up in the ER.
Cake Divas - hated the pink cake. My hubby liked it but he thought the gold drapes were cool. I just thought it was gaudy.
FAWN-DAWNT - bugs me as much as when people call it fondue. AAARRRGGGH! My co-worker makes cakes too (sometimes) and she calls it fondue every time.
Well, I think that was 3 cents worth.

Tracy that is to funny, do you or have you ever told her the correct way?
that would drive me crazy.
I just wrote a email to we tv and asked them not to cancel it just incase they were thinking of it. maybe someone will see it. maybe if a few more of us do the same they will not cancel it.
I've been thinking about that pink cake...it seems to me it is a Margaret Braun knock-off...or at least maybe Joan tried to do it in the style of Margaret Braun. However, it was very poorly executed, in the CakeDivas messy style. Does anyone else see that possibility?

Oh I thought I saw a few posts that said the show has been cancelled all together so I assumed maybe that was part of the reason. I'm not sure, but I did have no idea that was the finale. How long has this show been on, or was this the first season?
Hadnt heard they were cancelling it altogether. That would suck! Even though we have quams about their cakes in all its still a cake show!
But it was the first season of it, if it comes back which I hope it does!
Yes, Margaret Braun. I couldnt think of who's work that pink cake reminded me of and now you say it, I agree totally. Except like you said, not as well executed as her cakes. I think you have to be a certain type of person to like those type of cakes. As a designer I can appreciate the work and skill that goes into it but I dont care for that kind of look myself.

Did your hairdresser really go nuts? Like cuckoo nuts? Because some days, I could seriously see this happening to me!
My old hairdresser kind of had a breakdown, too. It's probably a very stressful job. Lots of pressure. She screwed up my hair that day very bad - very, very bad. Then she never came back. She kind of just lost it.
i tivo'd it. It's great to see the production behind planning a cake and meeting with clients. It's a great learning tool as well for decorating techniques especially with the use of carving a cake and the use of fondant. This is not one to miss. Also look out for "ace of cakes" and cake challenges on the foodnetwork. All great inspirations and learning tools.
you know what other show i like to watch just for the cake is platinum weddings on WE tv as well. Some the cakes on that show are wow.
I am from St. Louis, and people here in the Lou call fondant Fond -Ex. Even professional bakeries do!
Now I know there is a Product called Fond-X out there, but these people are just using the brand name to call fondant by.
It drives me NUTS, cause it makes me think of ex-lax. So that immediately gets me thinking about things that no baker needs to think about while working with food.
Its hilarious though when people call me up, and order a cake with "Fond-ex" on it. I have to restrain myself from laughing.
Customer: "Yeah, and I would like that Fond-ex stuff instead of regular BC"
Me: "Fond-ex? You mean fondant?"
Customer: "No, its called Fond-ex. I would think that you being a baker would know that."
Yah, she told some of her customers that she was going to retire. Then closed up shop and her daughter had hired some other person to run the business for a while. Then last winter she was arrested because she was driving irratically, driving down the wrong side of the road andthrowing stuff out her car window during a snow storm and being chased by the police. They had to deploy something to pop her tires where she still tried to drive away.
We dont know what happened to her. We think that she had a mental breakdown of some kind. She had just lost her mother and then her husband left her for another woman. Then I think her daughter got into some trouble or something and I think it was too much for her to handle. She is such a nice person and it really killed us to see this happening to her. We were more than clients because her family grew up down the street from my fathers store. So we were pretty close to the family. It was just really sad.
Wow, the poor lady, I hope she's gotten some help and is doing better.....that's such a sad story, I feel for her.
