I didn't want to highjack another thread regarding foamcore, but I was wondering. Doesn't it absorb moisture? I use foamcore, but don't do alot of stacking. I do seem to see a ring of grease stain from my buttercream. Isn't this absorbing moisture? So is there a concensus on whether to cover with wax/parchment or not?
The paper surface on foamcore absorbs grease (any paper does, even parchment, for that matter), but no, it doesn't significantly absorb moisture. The issue of it's stability is the foam "core"--that doesn't absorb anything.
I do stack a lot. I wipe down my boards with a light bleach solution before putting cakes on them. It doesn't even look wet afterwards.
I also cut a lot of my cakes. Even when grease has permeated the foamcore covering, it still doesn't shred easily at all when a cake knife is dragged across it.
I don't cover the boards with foil, saran, or parchment because I don't want that covering to shred during cutting and come up with cake slices.

I have been using foam core in my cakes, but I cover them first with Press 'n seal. It sticks fantastically and does not shred when slicing.
I use foam core as a cake base..i cover with clear contact paper to avoid the leakage of grease.
If you use foam coare for your stacked cakes in between would covering it in press n seal make it slip. ?I've heard of this happening with others and i certainly want to avoid that at all cost.
