What is Van-O-Van and does anybody use it? Does it make a difference if it is omitted in a recipe?

I think this is similar to Dry-Van, which is a powdered vanilla flavoring. You can't use it as a substitute for real vanilla but it is a tasty flavor addition to icing, cakes, cookies, etc. It tastes & smells like vanilla pudding.

They are always out of it at my local cake decorating store so I have learned to live without it but when I have it on hand, I do use it. HTH

Wow, this is a GREAT example of one of my biggest pet peeves .... recipes that are written using the brand name of the item instead of telling you what the item actually is.

If the recipe had been written as "Van-o-Van brand artificial vanilla flavoring", it would have removed all confusion.
