So, my soon to be 3 year old is OBSESSED with Wall-E. She has seen that movie 8 times. She says she is going to marry him. Anyway, her B day is next weekend, and this is the cake she wants! She has spent lots of time staring at it, then turning around and saying "thank you mommy!" how can I say no?

I think I can do a lot of it, but the questions I have are: How in the world will I make his head/face? And does anyone have any ideas about how to do the triangle-shaped wheels?

Thank you!!!!
LL

If I were to try this I might think about making his body out of cake and then construct the face/eyes out of fondont covered paper tubes -- not sure if this helps or not only thing that came to mind when I saw the photo.

I think faking some of it is a good idea. If you really want the head to edible, why not make the neck a base support, pvc or something and then do a flat piece, maybe only slightly titled , make the eyes out of Rice Krispy Treast. I bought the pre-bought ones and they are super easy to work with. Mount them on the flat piece on top of teh base with candy melts or royal and I think you can do it without too much stress. RKT to me are the saving grace for most cakesicon_smile.gif

Good luck and she'll love it no matter what cause mommy made it.

oooh, Rice krispies for the head sounds perfect. I'm thinking about just doing the body as cake, the rest nonedible stuff.
I learned a decent amount about construction that the class where I did the standing Raggedy Ann, so I think lots of the same principles apply here.
The plan so far is to make a stacked square cake to the right size, and the construct a PVC piped frame. The wheels still trip me up a bit.

Thank you for the great ideas!

RKT are a good idea too- just be sure they aren't too heavy-make sure the neck piece is strong and stable enough to support whatever you decide to make them out of.

I agree- she will love it because mommy made it just for her.

Yeah, the plan so far is to make the neck from a piece of PVC, so that should work out fine!

What if for the wheels you do 2 -1/4 sheets. Cut each one longways into 3 sections, stack those and then carve the top layer to make the triangle part. 1 sheet for each side. Does that make sense?

Michelle-that's a great idea!

You guys have been soooo helpful.

I hope I can pull it off!!!!!!!!

Oh, Noelle isn't my real name. I used to call myself that in highschool because my name is Summer, but I was born Christmas morning. I have no idea why my parents would do that, so that was just a nickname!

I think someone here has a Wall E cake in their signature. I know I have seen one in the past few days.

Summer- I was born on Christmas day also-

I like the same Summer and the little play on the name that your parents did- very original. Mine, not so much, Mary-Noelle.

Nice to hear of someone else born on x-mas- haven't met too many in my life. BTW- your cakes are fabulous and I can't wait to see how the WallE cake turns out- will be looking for it to come on here.

There are a bunch of cake photos in the gallery, just type wall-e in the search engine.

WHy not make the wheels from RKT's too?? That way they are edible and you won't have to worry about staking and carving more cake. That's what I would do anyway. icon_biggrin.gif

jkalman-totally have been thinking about that.

I've been buying her presents today online (she insists that they are all Wall-E because it is her Wall-E party.) I'm getting excited to make it!

Oh GREAT, my 4 year old just walked up behind me and said "WOW! You can make that cake for me for when I'm 5. I want that one! THANK YOU! I LOVE IT!" ....HAH. Man, I hope he changes his mind before his birthday because this is one I do not think I could pull off haha!

That being said, I'd totally do rice krispie treats for the wheels and the head! Good luck! Cant wait to see it!

jkalman-I did that circus cake back in April. Not quite as hard as it looks, and if you do the popcorn bag in styrofoam from www.**********.com , you can get it done ahead of time! I think I bought a square piece that was 6 inches tall, 6 inches at the top, and beveled down to 4 on the bottom.

I'm not necessarily worried about te difficulty level.. it's more just all of that cake. I was thinking about making the bottom tier from styro.. I think that would be the best way to avoid MASS QUANITIES of leftovers.. icon_lol.gif

I was waiting for him to ask for a Wall-E cake.. I was glad he didn't. icon_wink.gif I can't wait to see what you come up with now. Hop to it woman!! icon_wink.gif

Holy cr*p that's an amazing wall-e cake. I can't wait to see your version! I have the utmost confidence in you icon_smile.gif .Have fun w/the wall-e toys. Michael's carries that 'noisy book' - the kind where you push the buttons when they are pictured in the story, and it makes a sound from the movie. I love pushing it and listening to him say "Waaa-Ah-leeee!" and then listening to her say "Eeee-EEEH-VHH" icon_biggrin.gif

The treads ("track" around wheels) look like Twix bars to me.

Well, here he is. I'm not completely happy with him-but my daughter is thrilled! I got a big hug for this one. I wish I could have done better with his eyes, but that's a tough thing to do right. His tires are hard to see in the pic, and are covered in "dirt".

Thank you everyone for your ideas and support!
